Same observations with this one being the typical high fiver which is dishonest and doesn't help any one. "he said he looked at them but he could not handle all the bullshit he could see
folk telling each other their plants look great when they clearly did not "
Used to play tennis and my Dad kept saying, "Bendejito always play someone who can beat you in the game. That way you get better at the game."
(now.....what in the hell that has to do with growing I don't know LOL.)

I've had many conversations with redcarpetmatches and he's passionate about how he grows and I respect that. What I don't care for is his "my way is always much better than your way" attitude.
I don't find fault with anyone that wants to try new and different growing techniques or new equipment. Pushing the envelope is how we find new and better ways of doing something. The problem is that many of these new growers feel they must disregard basic botany (which never changes) for hype.
Sadly, RIU and the other grow-sites have lost their way with the thousands of misinformed posts that head new growers down an expensive and dead-end paths.
Growing pot is actually easy. Hell, if I can grow nice plants it has to be easy. I see so many growers over-think everything while the plant's only goal in life is to grow and reproduce. Give it good soil, good light, and water/feed correctly and you're almost guaranteed a great plant. All the rest is just fodder.

There is nothing wrong with constructive criticism, i welcome it i can learn from it
Sadly RIU has many newbies who care more about weather you are using the latest fashionable lights/latest pruning method/latest additives
or growing the most popular clone only
to this type of newbie, (thankfully not all newbies are like this) it seems it's all about being "cool" this is blatant hipster culture , the irony of it is, much of what these types of newbies regurgitate is simply old news
like fashions they come and go, the latest generation always thinks they are the original innovators
this is why many newbies are able to present unhealthy looking plants and they will pat each other on the back stating how wonderful they look
as long as they are grown using the "cool" methods they promote themselves
this seems to be a dishonest an unhelpful approach to me, its very "clique" like , to onlookers and visitors to forums like my friend it just looks like blatant bullshit
if a plant looks unhealthy to me i will say so, whatever methods were used to grow it
weather these methods are cool with youngsters or not
or weather i like the grower or not, i would hope folk would do the same with me, this is genuine and will help folk to improve

how did cannabis survive for so many years, surely being so stress prone every plant in the world would of turned hermie by now
i do lay some of the blame on these grow books ,which many newbies seem well-read
those grow books do have a great deal of useless information and they over-complicate things
PH is another obsession with newbies, i saw a post recently where a dude stated
"the chemical PH test kits are useless and only an idiot would use them" "get a digital meter like me" (these test kits are accurate to 0.2 increments)
"because 0.1 shift in PH can make an enormous difference" said nobbie

I know what you're saying about people proudly sharing plants that....well.....to me look like crap. Unlike you, I don't say anything just because I don't want feelings hurt (my first harvest was a mess and I too was proud of it.....for no apparent reason) as I don't want to discourage them from continuing. Making mistakes is part of the learning curve, and once they've tried all the snake-oil and follow bad information, I hope they end up finding "going back to the basics and keeping it simple" is in the end the best way of growing.

I like your fashion analogy. It's funny.....tye-dye tshirts and jeans are still in fashion after all these years while fashions since seem to come and go. I liken some of these new growers to those that wear their pants below their asses to the point they can no longer walk normally.....but they feel they're cool.
I was watching this guy with his low-rider pants walking his bike the other day....every 30' or so he'd try to sling his leg over the bike...but couldn't because of his pants being so low. It seemed like it never occurred to him to hike up his pants.
To those that have their growing pants down too low and can't get a good plant.....PULL UP YOUR PANTS LIKE WE'VE BEEN DOING FOR DECADES!

i say what i see out of honesty, telling someone their plant looks good when it is obviously unhelathy is not helping them
it's really not the same as telling a lady her arse is not big when it clearly is LOL
don't worry about hurting peoples canna-ego just be honest, if everyone was more honest i think the general state of growing for all noobs would improve

I always check out the LED section here at RIU some of these guys grow some great plants, some of them seem like pretentious assholes to me
i do not like folk who preach the "do it my way or you're an idiot" kind of thing, i am happy for all folks to choose how they grow without any preaching

A quick dip into there after 2+ years, just a couple hundred members (333 to be exact) and only 3 on line.

I'll take a website with a couple hundred members and a dozen good growers over a website that has thousands of members and a dozen good growers....just as I would prefer a small town over a big city.
