Does this look like a decent place to grow?

not ideal but it can work mate you'll need to board the deck out so that the weight is spread evenly also helping to cover the insulation, if you are going to grow up there it would probably be a wise idea to reverse the norm take air in from the room (attic) and then vent down into the house so as not to create a massive hotspot (the roof) and also helping with the ventilation, i live in the uk so can't comment in good faith on how much your roof breaths but in theory with a little bit of work and money and you should be good. if you do go ahead with the attic there's a few probs you should be aware of the biggest i found was temps great in the winter unmanageable through the height of summer but we have black welsh slate hear that gets very hot!!! the other was mentioned above the insulation has to be kept out which will mean sheeting off an area around your tent cutting plenty of holes and then covering them with something that breathes i used my misses tights cut up and it worked well, other than that you'll have to have a little patience and set up and then wait a couple of days checking temps and humidity once your lights up there and then buy your fans to suit, i know this sounds a little arse backwards but you'll need to do this to see what kind of fans your gonna need to help with temps remember your exhausting into the house and need to create negative pressure in the room to keep the fresh air coming in, i hope this helps a little mate if your gonna go through with, if i was you though mate starting for the first time i'd probably try the other option the closet and work up from there, starting in the closet will help with the issues mentioned above and give you much better control over your environment without having to use the large expensive fans aswell as possibly a 12month grow area that will allow you to practice and not worry so much about the money you'll have to claw back from the above investment that could become rather expensive depending on temps r/h etc either way i wish you the best mate and happy growing fingers crossed for ya mate
And thanks W Dragon, I appreciate the help and feedback, I'll consider it, but I'll probably just go with that closet man! I definitely want to start here in the next few months, all these grow journals are getting me excited haha.

Try and get your hands on the book or an e-book called "buds for less" its helping me alot to get equipment for cheap and make a good but very basic first set up.

you can virtualy do it anywhere you want. ( accept maybe where you plan to grow )

only problem im having is finding the equipment due to the lack of stores in my area. but i guess i will have to buy off the internet.

but definetly get a hold of the book or try find it on the internet.
it can help out even the upmost "professionals" so to speak.

but you can grow virtualy anywhere its just such things as cost and living with the parents that can make it tricky to grow. as long as you have good ventalation so air can move around and also a few fans to control the heat and you will be fine.

also then onto smell. if its such an issue such as you say then carbon filter in that room would be needed.
Thanks Sculptar yeah i'll definitley get that e-book, I need all the reading I can get! Wish I was into doing my homework for school as much as I am into doing it for growing

its pretty risky man.. just more or less cuz its up in the attic.. and like sum1 else said about the fiber glass.. and its alot harder to constantly check on ya know? like min eis in my closet.. in my rooom.. soo all i gotta do is look in the door to check.. youd have to go up there anytime u wanna check on the. =/

have u thought about doin a lil PC grow? they have pre-built PC boxes u can buy online.. and fir a plant in there.. adn hide it sumwea in ur room near a window. alotta ppl use thw pc grows wen theyre parents or roomates dont allow them to grow... its worth a try man... but i mean.. if worse comes to worse.. maybe try growin 1 small plant up in the attic... but just try to fire-proof the area ur growin in as best as u can.. and ask ur sis to check on the every so often.. anotha idea would be to get a baby monitor... like the lil video ones. not jsut the sound one. and have the camera right on ur plant(s) and keep the reciever part in ur room. so u can always keep an eye on it right from ur room? =) ppl do grow in their attics... soo it is possible.

either way. good luck man

So I think after thinking this over for a few weeks, I'd really like to grow at home, problem is I live with my rents...but my sister will let me use your closet/attic room to grow. I went in to investigate the area, found it has no access outside aka no vents or holes to move air in and out. Its also fairly cold in there, but if I had a grow tent and maybe vented the air as close to the roof would this keep smell out? Other than the door of entry, there is no other opening into the house. Her room is on its own floor, on the highest floor of the house. So I'm not afraid of smell really, or should I be? What can I do to make this work? Or cant I? need some feedback please! :hump:View attachment 1328030View attachment 1328038View attachment 1328037View attachment 1328036View attachment 1328035View attachment 1328034View attachment 1328033View attachment 1328032View attachment 1328031View attachment 1328029View attachment 1328039

Its not really an attic dude, its more of a 4' tall closet that runs about the length of one side of the house. And its really not that cold, I just don't really have much choice right now, and wouldn't want to wait another year to grow. I would have a grow tent, so I'm not worried about dirt and fiberglass. Really all it is I'm worried about is sound, and how much power it will suck, and maybe smell, but not really as much as the other two. My mothers crazy about the power bills! So i'm afraid she will notice. I did read on another grow journal that I cannot recall now, but he mentioned having like two 400w HID's and his bill went up around $35, since that's the case, would mine really go up even that noticeably with 12 clfs and a few fans? I have a aerogarden right now, and was thinking of doing one plant in a SCROG with some cfls. Found the perfect thing for the screen, now all I need is nutes, Ph and ppm meters, maybe a heater of some sort if needed, but then again wouldn't the lights just warm the plants if they were in a tent? Probably like close to 10 or 12 cfls? Would that have much power consumption? Along with like a osculating fan, and a few computer fans to vent air in and out of the tent? Since there is a bit of a breeze there would the plant get enough Co2? if not, then there is probably no point in trying huh?

just a bump!

And deciding if its even possible to grow in such a room without any visible/noticeable ventilation. Its not an attic, its a room that used to be an attic, but has some left over space that wasn't used for the room itself. No need to tell me I will get into trouble, I know about the risks of growing, and growing anywhere is risky, so just need to know if its possible. Although I'm sure air circulates in there, its a big space, and I can feel a very slight breeze in one corner, but its not very cold. I guess what I'm wondering now is would a setup with a tent and about 10 - 15 clfs keep one plant in an Aerogarden alive? I presume the lights will warm the plant considerably, so I do not have a need for a heater of any sort, except maybe one for inside the Aerogarden to keep the water slightly warm? And also would this amount of lighting cause the electric bill to go up noticeably? And by noticeably I mean more than $20. I know I sort of repeated myself from the last post, but I wanted to make sure you know what I need answered now! Either way I'll get myself a thermometer and check the temps in there during the day and at night and I'll report back here.
