Myself, I don't got the space to have 6 footers growin in my closet, so I flip the switch when they're about a foot tall. When to induce flowering though really depends on a few things- Space is a big deal as they can triple in size during flowering. Yield- Longer vegging time makes for a bigger plant, capable of producing more buds than smaller plant will allow.

first i waited 2 months in DWC (in the first growjournal in my sig).this 2nd time i waited 29 days in a AERO setup and they shot up to the roof bent across the celling.
well this next one im gonna go 2 weeks in veg cause they can triple in size in flower. so i guess it depends.

Flowering is typically for 8-10 weeks. I myself like to start 12/12 after about 5 weeks.

what lighting you using and what kinda space ya got to work with. if you think you can leave them to veg a bit longer i would. like i said just bare in mind that they double t tripple in size but youve obviosly seen that for yourself.. so my advise is make a calculated guess at how much bigger you can let them get in veg taking into account the growth spirt. its a lot easier when working with the same strain or at least mix ie indica or sativa. when working with a mix ppl tend to go for things with the same flowering time and height specs.
and yes i would leave them longer than 6 weeks wait till 60 to 80 % of the hairs are brownafter this the plant degrades itself. or get a magnifying glass and look for browning of the trichromes.... meaning they strt to look a little amber

4-6 weeks... flowering? This time around, try letting them flower for at leat 8 weeks, u should see a noticeable increas in ur yields as they tend to put on a lot of weight in the last weeks of flowering.

What strains do you grow? I have never grown any strain that flowered to maturity in that short of a period of time.

I am not sure that I can agree with that advice. An indica will grow thicker and bushier but also it will not grow as tall as a sativa no matter what you do, assuming that both types would be grown under the same conditions. I do not grow indica or indica dominant strains often but when I do I veg them longer because I know that even when they grow a great deal while in flower I will not run out of room/height and they will not outgrow my lighting ability to provide adequate light to a plant of that height.
When growing sativas, that is vegged long can grow to massive heights, I do not veg them as long because I have run out of space/height before and outgrown my lighting capability to provide adequate light to the lower portions of the plants.
Because sativa and sativa dominant strains produce less the thought is to veg them longer so they grow larger and in doing so you make up in size what would otherwise be lacking in production but if you have any height restrictions/limitations and your lighting is not up to adequately lighting a Sequoia-height plant vegging them longer is a mistake for sure.
They tend to grow more in flower, as in height/vertical growth, than an indica so even vegging them as long as an indica can be risky if someone has height restrictions/limitations or lacks lighting to give such tall plants adequate light.
As for controlling plant size by using smaller pots, well that will work but it is not the best way to control height. Vegging for a shorter period of time is by far the better option because smaller pots can equate to rootbound plants and rootbound plants can equate to problems.
When you have rootbound plants you risk the following problems:
Stunted Growth.
Stretching.
Smaller and slower bud production.
Needs watering too often.
Easy to burn with low % nutrient solution mixtures.
Wilting.
So yes you can see stunted growth but not always in how you may want it, as in shorter plants, and will instead see stretching and end up with taller plants. Bud production and size can decrease, you are asking for watering problems, you increase the risk of nute burning your plants and they are prone to wilting due to lack of moisture.
So are those problems worth risking to limit the size of a plant when just vegging it for a shorter period of time will control its growth without risking the problems listed above?
Those things are why I cannot agree with your advice for vegging time for indica and sativa strains and also for controlling plant size/height by using smaller pots.
Excellent point bricktop. I've found the only way to somewhat make the plants grow as big as I want and not an inch bigger is simply with adjusted veg time and some lst and topping here and there as well. Like bt said, if u use small pots for the pupose of plant size, it could lead to some problems that u really don't want since they will effect the yields in the end.

I can tell you that in DWC, res size plays a huger role. Each gal gets her own and have same strain side by side in 2 diff size res' and the diff was more than double. cant speak for soil.

truth is theres no real wrong time some tend to like picking early i like leaving to fill out as much as they can. i like couch lock tho

Depends a lot on your light... Your headspace is only as good as your light's ability to penetrate it. I find my 400W to be penetrating pretty well to 3'; the bottom 1' is sketchy. If you have more, you can veg more.. light really rules first, headspace second..
