Does anyone sell straight N, P and K?

Would make it easier to treat specific deficiences/toxicities if companies sold straight N, P and K. Does anyone do that? Anyone know where I can find it?

you gotta look around, but yea. For example i got a bottle that reads 9 - 1 -2, pretty much just N,
another bottle reads 1-7-1, and making a banana peel tea is pretty much 0-0-X (depending how strong ya make it)

the key thing is to look around, and read the labels.

Calcium Nitrate "N" and monopotassium phosphate "P & K".

You can buy a three part product called VitaGrow. The Superfast Grow is calcium nitrate 17-0-0. The GiantBloom is monopotassium phosphate 0-51-34.

If you use Vitagrow and follow the recommended feeding you won't have any deficiencies because everything is in Vitagrow. It's also the cheapest available. There is one thing though, it doesn't have a fancy name or come in a fancy bottle but a one pound box of GiantBloom is less than ten dollars. Look on the label of most bloom boosters and you will see that many are derived from monopotassium phosphate. It's just diluted and marked up as much a 1000 times.

No it would not make it easier because you are not a chemist or you would know that this is out of your league. Plants need these nutrients MADE AVAILABLE FOR THEM through a process from microbes or enzymes in organics and/or through the by-product of oil companies like all the "ates" (Ammonium Nitrate, Ammonium Phosphate, potassium Sulfate.) in Synthetics. So unless you are Timmothy Mcveigh, or a large scale farmer... getting these products can be difficult and dangerous. Also requiring great research to mix with proper formulas.

I will add sure you can get some of this stuff over the internet but you can't buy a small amount to just simply supply yourself for a year... you will buy a lifetime supply for a hobby grower or they don't bother... ;p

There is a firm that sells just that ... I saw it in that glossy catalog from the hydro store, but alas, I chucked the catalog. So I cannot tell you the brand, and a quick Google search didn't reveal the secret to me. cn

^^ Yes..but there is no need to reinvent the fucking wheel...unless you have a phd in botany you are better off following what many great growers have done before you.

What do you think these nutrient companies are doing whenever they release a new product with a fancy label and catchy name for $20 a litre? They are just putting a shiny hubcap on a wheel that has already been invented, selling it to people that they have convinced they need it even if the plant doesn't.

You don't need a PHD to be able to mix up some mineral salts into the same formula's used by the big nutrient lines. If you graduated from High School you're smart enough. There are formula's that are almost exactly the same as any of the big name brands. It takes five minutes to do a google search and find everything you need.

I would advise the OP to continue with this. They will find that it's VERY easy to mix up everything yourself for a fraction of the cost.

enlighten us on how you would soften the formula if you so choose to use synthetics? what would be your stabilizer, buffer, what would be your control? how would you preserve?

if you would choose to make an organic compound what would your base be? how would you support microbe life? what is your balance?

just curious because I graduated college not too long ago and am having a hard time slapping labels on liters of formulas to sell for 20 bucks....

As complicated as you managed to make that sound, im not talking about throwing out convention total nutrient lines. Im talking about a hyrdoponically agreeable so7rce on N, P and K so I canmore easily isolate problems and fix them without making things worse (as it is easy to do, and as i have done, trying to chase deficiencies with nutrient mixes)

CANNA MONONUTRIENTS BUT IF U WANT MY ADVICE DO NOT BUY MG AND CA SEPARATELY. I'VE HAD A NIGHTMARE WITH THOSE TWO (I use RO water)
I SOMETIMES ADD N IN VEG TO BASE MY WATER OTHER THAN THAT I ONLY ADD CAL/MAG FROM SENSI.

I often think Advanced Nutrients pays people to act ignorant on the forums.

The people who are unwilling to try calcium nitrate and mono-potassium phosphate are a bunch of clowns imo. They get so defensive about the money they've spent on their AN products.

You can get a 50lb bag of calcium nitrate at cropking for 30 bucks which almost completely replaces the "micro" bottle of any 3 bottle formula providing a life time supply.

It doesn't take a chemist, just someone with common sense...

How about this...

step 1) Buy a scale
step 2) mix the following by mass:

3 part KNO3
8 part Ca(NO3)2
9 part KH2PO4
4 part MgSO4
1.6 part FeSO4
0.6 part KOH

This really isn't rocket science. People are already mixing 3 bottles. Is 6 chemicals really that much harder to experiment with than 3 bottles?

That mix is my 9th iteration and works great. If you think it needs more or less of something, adjust the formula and experiment.... No need for calculations... just guess and check and do what seems intuitive. Instead of adding more "bloom booster", you add more KH2PO4.

Listen to indiapale. He is speaking truth. I also buy calcium nitrate and monopotassium phosphate from cropking. They work the same as liquid grow store nutes for a fraction of the price.

Monopotassium phosphate is the base of every bloom booster on the market. They might change the ratios a bit by adding potassium sulfate, etc, but the base remains the same. Ever wonder what MOAB or koolbloom are made of? pretty much straight monopotassium phosphate powder.

Calcium nitrate is good for greening plants up a bit, and sativas usually need a little boost.

There's no magic to it. If you have an EC meter, you will be safe using this method and not burning your plants. If you don't, start with a small dose (like 1 or 2 tsp/gallon small), and slowly work your way up until results are achieved.

Far from easy to find. None of those are available where I am. What you find available for nutes depends upon whether you are in the desert or in the middle of corn country. Millions of people here and not 1 hydro shop in the state.
