Do you HAVE to sex feminized seeds

Do i have to cut a clone and sex the clone if im using feminized seeds? And if you do actually have to sex the plant can you just leave in veg until it shows sex?

can you use the entire plant in 12/12 to sex, or is it better to take a clone and do it?

Ive tried searching for the answer. Sorry for the dumb question.

ok, first off- feminized seeds have a 90% chance of producing a female plant, but every so often a male or (more likely) a hermie will creep in.
Second, you can't sex the plant without flowering it, because it's about 2-3 weeks into flowering before it shows the characteristics that allow you to tell if it is male or female.
As for clones, it is always better to take them during vegging, because they can't always be reverted to veg state if you took them from a flowering plant. What you need to do is mark each of them so you know which parent plant they came from, that way you can toss out any clones that were taken from a male or hermie plant. Once you've weeded out any males or hermies your set, and you can take clones off any of your vegging plants with no worries about them being male.

Note-feminized seeds tend to be hermie prone, and there is always the possibility that a clone taken from a plant that never showed any hermie traits will end up going hermie itself. There really isn't much you can do about it except to clip the balls off of them when they appear.

IME ive rarely come across better than 3 out of 5 ratio with feminized seeds & they tend to hermie.
You can tell the sex of most strains in early veg with a 60x magnification if you know where to look. Take cuttings from all the plants, flower them as normal to the end & keep the cuttings from whats good.

Speeka,

Your ratio is that bad? I grow from clones mostly, but my buds that have grown from feminized seeds almost always had 9 out of 10 come out female, though having 1-2 of those hermie druing flowering on them wasn't unusual. Also, how are you sexing during veg? I've heard people say it's possible, but the only reliable method i know of is to flower them.

Yes m8, i personally dont even buy Femmed seeds anymore & stick to regular. No hermies. I also grow from clones but in my part of the world, the LSF has been real bad this year & has been fucking up my Veg cabinet.
You can spot the sex, on the 4-5 th node up, with a 30-60x mag jewelers loupe & obviously look for calyx & pistils. ;)

so do you pre-sex the entire plant or just take a cutting and leave the main plant in veg, and pre-sex the cutting? then if its good switch the main plant to flower?

I think you are missing the point of feminized seeds. You dont need to sex them. Veg them to the size you want and then put them into flower. Of course, you need to watch the first few weeks just in case you get a male or hermie for some reason. Personally, I have grown out about 12 or so strains from feminized seeds and have only had 1 hermie plant. That was a Dutch Passion Blueberry. The chance of a hermie increases if the plant is stressed out. Most hermies are not genetic problems, they are caused by human error. And the chance of a fem seed being a male or hermie is more like 1 in 200.
