I just made a whole new clone setup after playing with my last one.
This batch of clones had roots popping in 8 days.
Everything was from home depot or amazon.
- 17 Gallon HD tote. Lid painted white over black plasti-dip in 3rd pic you can see the weather stripping that seals it. 0 leaks at all.
-The red sprayers came with a drill bit.
-The pump is 550gph on a 15 on 15 off timer.
-2" net pots with bottoms cut off and neoprene inserts off amazon.
-30x18x36 tent
-2ft 4 bulb T5 on 24 hrs.
I use Dyna-Gro KLN and Pro-Tekt with 1/4mL per gallon Southern Ag fungicide.
Dont change water.
I also recently tossed 2 airstones in a bucket and saved 3 seedlings.

Hell yeah. I’ll definitely be referring to your pics when I get to building mine. I went to a different Lowe’s today and found the perfect tote. This one is still 5 gallons but it’s got a bigger lid for more sites and is still plenty deep. This is kinda why I got the 210 gph pump. I was thinking about doing 20 sites. Sealing the lid should be super easy because of the locking tabs, and the square bumps shouldn’t be a problem. I think the foam inserts I got are plenty thick. I didn’t get net pots for them but I was imagining the cut ends getting sprayed directly with a pretty much constant mist. If this isn’t the best way I want to know now though, because once the pump, nozzles, and inserts get here I’ll get right to building this. I was also thinking I could solve my space issue by putting it all inside a larger clear tote and putting a t5 over it, if the 120 watt 288 lm310b board in the tent is gonna be too much. That would help with humidity, and that’s a real issue here in central NM.

I used a bigger version of the same box for my first one and it would drip out the sides before I added the weather stripping. It's only a few bucks near the window screens and stuff.
I also deal with very dry climate. Thats why I ended up with the small tent. Anything you can do to keep as much humidity in there as you can in the first week will help them.
Less water means your pump will change your temps faster, just keep an eye on that. I do the 15 on 15 off or it heats up too much.

I never could understand the reasoning for using cut off net pots. Why? Is there an advantage to it over just setting the collar into the hole? I guess it just makes things a little more secure and easy to pull out? No pulling the neoprene up and out of a plastic circle.

Yeah the net pots end up just being a collar for the neoprene. Just makes things faster and easier to deal with. Dont worry about cuttings falling out and they fit perfectly inside a hole saw I already had too.
It's all really cheap on amazon and I'm all for spending a few bucks to make things easier.

Yeah I was definitely planning on using weather stripping. It seems like the perfect box. So the net pots aren’t required. That’s okay because I won’t need to take any clones for at least another month. The inserts I got are foam instead of neoprene, and they’re pretty thick so I don’t think they’ll come out easily once I have them wedged, especially if I use a 1 and 7/8 hole saw.

You need to re order neoprene ones. I've used foam. It holds water rather than repel it like neoprene. Stems get to moist. Rots them out.

I've read very positive things about it. I considered giving it a go to but couldnt find the right parts in my budget to do it how I wanted.

I wouldn't say quick. I typically see roots within 2 weeks but that may be due to my environment and quality of the cuttings (older cuttings take longer to root). I do like that it is set it and forget it.

Interesting. My local friend told me to get foam ones but everyone on here uses neoprene. I’ll look into them.
I always used PVC pipe for the collars as per dcyans style. You cut them about an inch and push them into holes till flush with inside of cover. Just drop the cut in and the branch keeps them from falling through. Also the holes allow hot air to travel out. You'd think water would spray out, it doesn't. I tried to make the same style I had for decades when I moved to America and used that same box above but the weather stripping I used didn't work, still got a small drip. I would love to use it since I already have it.

Fucking A that's cleverExactly. Some people glue them in place, others take them out and wash them.
Learned it from a guy from Overgrow. They take less space then neoprene collars and as I said, the heat really escapes which is awesome in summer. If been using a store bought one in the States since coming here 4 years ago and I have killed 4 or 5 clones by slipping on the collars and snapping them right off when I go to transplant them. With the pvc collars you just pull them out. Super easy.

With the collars I use and the lid having those grooves like it does, it vents mine pretty well without water getting out.
Last version the holes were centered in the squares and they sit flush against the plastic, it got a lot hotter in the box.
It took me 3 tries with different weather stripping to find one that worked with 0 leaks
and the slipping on the collars does not make sense to me?
I pick the whole thing up out of the hole and push the neoprene insert up out of the net pot from the bottom.
