Diatomaceous earth????

Hey all... top o' the season to ya's. Anyone have any experience with diatomaceous earth?? All these years and I'm just finding out about it now. I have some industrial size slug issues this year and was told that this earth is the cats ass for stopping the little bastards.
It ain't cheap so.....pros/cons/experiences with,... anyone.
