All things optimum, I believe it's mainly Light intensity.

Huge difference in density between buds from same mother plants grown under 600 and 1000 Watts (hps)
How far do you generally keep your light from your plants.. And how do you ventilate?.. I had a 600w hps grow that went bust before because I had a too small grow.like less than a square meter but had more height.. . Ended up burning my plants cause I worked a 36hr shift at work and couldn't open the cupboard to ventilate..it was a light I got for free and average seeds so I was fine with it.. Like to hear your methods of perfection guys

Environmental control + 12hr test run with thermo-hygrometer that records high/low temp/humidity before adding plants.
Genetics are the main factor for density, Environment/Light intensity are also very important.
Not sure why a close trim would be bad for the consumer, they're buying less leaves...:weed:
