i would be a vegan if i had to kill my own meat.

we raised 3 ducks this summer from a broody chicken, and they all turned out male. there was no point in over-wintering them so i thought we could eat them.

once i looked at the process for preparing a duck, i lost my will to eat them. ended up giving them away to a family out in the sticks who would let them breed their female ducks. they promised not to eat them until the ducks had at least one more summer to enjoy (maybe more for all i know).

i have seen the videos of baby chicks being dumped and killed inhumanely recently and have undertaken the more expensive task of only eating at places that use known humane producers and/or local farms. i am trying to never again eat at any of the major fast food chains, despite how i enjoy them so.

if i ever gain more will of self, i will become vegan like you one day. but until then, i am trying to at least make sure any meat i eat was treated well while it was a living animal and killed humanely.

edit: here is a picture of our broody silky hen as well as dandelion, just hours after her birth. and a link to a thread about said poultry...

That's so cute.

Being a vegan isn't so hard as people think it is. Like anything, you have to have good tasting food. Vegan food, done properly, can give the same satisfaction as meat eater foods. Like tonight I had a meatball(vegan Trader Joe's), marinara and mozzarella(vegan Daiya)on a french bread steak roll. Every bit as tasty as you'd get at Quizno's. But plain veggies are fine by me too.

See, I'm not trying to be preachy. But I hear the how hard arguement all the time. I can assure, with proper cooking, even a meat eater, like yourself would be plenty satisfied.

I wasn't always a vegan. I didn't even convert out if kindness for animals. I did it for Bill Clinton reasons. My cholesterol, blood pressure and pulse were all so high, the doctor said he wanted to check me in three months. If I didn't improve, he was putting me on medication. I hate big pharma so much, I went vegan those three months, so I wouldn't ingest a milligram of cholesterol. In those three months my cholesterol went down 40 points, and my bp and pulse became normal. I was so relieved, I could even go back to meat. But I felt no need, and stayed with it ever since.

I used to be such a meat eater. 3x3 Inn n' Out animal style, or a Pizza Hutt meat lovers. Those were my favorite. I'd have those a few times a month.

For me, the hardest thing is how expensive it is. Like that meatball sandwich cost $3, and I had to make it myself! If you want take out vegan, you need to make it yourself.

As the years went by, I became quite the animal activist too. Strange it was the diet that made me, not me making the diet like most vegans.

my wife can't have glutens or dairy, and she makes amazing stuff that tastes on par with bread or dairy. if you do vegan right, there is no need to sacrifice taste at all.

im hoping one day soon i can muster enough strength to stop eating meat..
if you look up how foods are processed, more or less created, that by itself should make you want to stop
"chicken" and "beef" - aren't what they used to be / taste like

go green, grow green, live green

I have the dairy thing down. I actually now enjoy almond milk more than cow milk. There are secrets to dairy replacement. Like add a bit more salt when cooking with it. Lemon juice or crystalline citric acid. More sugar. Nutritional yeast. Etc.

Glutten would be a bit harder and make things more expensive. I've found some corn pasta that works great for italian and mexican fusion. Amaranth flour. Bulgar. Millet loaf bread. Agar-agar. Sprouted wheat berry bread/crackers(helps, not cures). Lentils. Apples. Flax. Those all work great when making: cakes, pies, muffins and breads.

i changed my signature to more accurately reflect the level of obama derangement syndrome that will inevitably occur as we move closer to the election.

have you had the pleasure of debating with johnnyorganic?
The fact that you still believe that Obama can cure cancer, win the war and fart Yankee Doodle shows you have been listening to his press secretary too much.

i would be a vegan if i had to kill my own meat.

we raised 3 ducks this summer from a broody chicken, and they all turned out male. there was no point in over-wintering them so i thought we could eat them.

once i looked at the process for preparing a duck, i lost my will to eat them. ended up giving them away to a family out in the sticks who would let them breed their female ducks. they promised not to eat them until the ducks had at least one more summer to enjoy (maybe more for all i know).

i have seen the videos of baby chicks being dumped and killed inhumanely recently and have undertaken the more expensive task of only eating at places that use known humane producers and/or local farms. i am trying to never again eat at any of the major fast food chains, despite how i enjoy them so.

if i ever gain more will of self, i will become vegan like you one day. but until then, i am trying to at least make sure any meat i eat was treated well while it was a living animal and killed humanely.

right on man , i have been living like this for a few years, and life is just better and being more in involved with the local community also gives you a better sense community . . . how it all connects and works together the way things should vs the mass production and consumption that this country currently puts in to every industry

i don't believe any of those things. i didn't even say those things.

a conservative said he could do those things, and you would still complain.

i know you are a simple GOPer, so that explains the subpar reading comprehension.

and also wanted to mention that she discovered corn pasta. it is the only gluten free pasta that i will even eat. more costly, but same or better taste and texture.

i am still waiting for science to make gluten-free bread that does not need to be toasted black to be decent :)
