irony: demanding less spending and then crying foul when something is done to move us towards less spending.
I didnt say that I was against a smaller military.
I just noticed it was ironic that he praised them and immediately announced cuts... You dont think so?

no irony... it's time to downsize the military and concentrate on investing at home, not in destroying and rebuilding other countries...
you can't be 'fired' from the military because of cuts, it's not like the private sector where the company can just say "well, cost savings strategy has led us to fire all of you before the end of the month"...

You do understand that people serving in the military will be declined for re-enlistment at the end of their term?
Now, it might be called something different but if you cease having a job, does it matter if you were fired or if your contract was not renewed?
Again, I have no problem with a smaller military... I just find it funny that the president had it in the speech that way.

if i start a contract job for say 8 months. I cannot say: I was fired after 8 months because they didn't renew my contract, because there was understanding the job would only last 8 months. I might be unemployed, but these men won't be fired.

How is downsizing a already wastful and unnecessary large military a dumb ass move. Should we continue to pay for widely over priced military, or spend the money on more important things, and help the retired soldiers find civilian jobs.
FYI: This is a move that has been called on by many military leaders for years, and something that happens after the end of wars. So again what makes this a dumbass move?

Both sides will do the same, so it's unfair you pick only the deranged against Obama to pick on. You need to use the fairness doctrine liberals are so fond of and put an equal number of quotes (air time) showing the deranged people on your side. Don't complain and say it didn't work. Each side has quacks, that's just to show your side gets just as nutty or nuttier.

like you, he also brought up how "scrubbing african weiners" (his words) was included in the stimulus.
we argued, him saying it was another example of reckless spending, me saying it was an investment to help us ween off foreign aid, eventually sending less foreign aid because we prevented the initial problem that had us sending aid). he eventually had to concede my point about an ounce of prevention, with the caveat that we shouldn't be spending money on foreign aid in the first place (so that we both kind of "won").
i noticed how you brought up that point as well, which makes me think you are a very worthy adversary. i think you'd have fun teaming up on a lib like me with a fellow conservative like johnnyo.
and i agree, our side has its share of nuts, perhaps nutty or nuttier. i hate having them on my side (dukeanthony). and also, i am not a fan of the fairness doctrine.

i would be a vegan if i had to kill my own meat.
we raised 3 ducks this summer from a broody chicken, and they all turned out male. there was no point in over-wintering them so i thought we could eat them.
once i looked at the process for preparing a duck, i lost my will to eat them. ended up giving them away to a family out in the sticks who would let them breed their female ducks. they promised not to eat them until the ducks had at least one more summer to enjoy (maybe more for all i know).
i have seen the videos of baby chicks being dumped and killed inhumanely recently and have undertaken the more expensive task of only eating at places that use known humane producers and/or local farms. i am trying to never again eat at any of the major fast food chains, despite how i enjoy them so.
if i ever gain more will of self, i will become vegan like you one day. but until then, i am trying to at least make sure any meat i eat was treated well while it was a living animal and killed humanely.
