Dangers of shrooms?

Good luck with that... I'm not sure if you can actualy cultivate those as they coexist with certain trees, I think it has something to do with shareing bacteria...
They are usually found in birch woods or under pines. Cultivating this mushroom indoors is near impossible. Not to mention possible misidentification. I wouldn't waste my time.

(1996): "Each year, use of NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs) accounts for an estimated 7,600 deaths and 76,000 hospitalizations in the United States." (NSAIDs include aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, diclofenac, ketoprofen, and tiaprofenic acid

Dude,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psilocybin#Toxicity

Check that out, the lethal dose of psiliybin is unknown and just think about its toxicity.

At first I wasn't going to dignify this with a response, but I feel that there is so much misinformation in this thread I should clarify a few things. Anyone who knows anything about psilocybin, psilocin, or magic mushrooms in general realizes just how dumb what you said was.

A common misconception, even seen in the professional environment, is that the effects experienced from psilocybin are due to a poisonous nature of the compound, yet the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, a branch of the Center for Disease Control, rated psilocybin less toxic than aspirin.

Heres a citation along with some other information on mushrooms: http://www.thegooddrugsguide.com/mushrooms/faq.htm#01

Tryptamines are compounds that contain an indole ring. These compounds resemble the neurotransmitter serotonin. Psilocybin is a tryptamine just like LSD, LSA, DMT, etc. However after ingestion psilocybin is rapidly dephosphorylated by the enzyme alkaline phospatase in the intestine. Thus, it is the metabolite psilocin which is thought to be responsible for hallucinations and psychological effects.

Yes I mean Amanitas. Cultivating amanitas is exponentially more difficult than say cubensis or panaeolus mushrooms. I know several experienced growers that have tried and had no results at all. Another major problem is misidentification. The Death Cap mushroom is of the amanita family and has a similar appearance.

I do see the risk but I'm not dumb enough to mistake a death cap for A. Muscaria. I try to identify every mushroom I pick from the wild accurately. Plus I know the patch I'd havest from and it's Muscaria. How long and what methods did your friends use to try and cultivate?

If you live in an area where you can find wild amanitas growing then it is possible to an extent. One person I know found some wild amanitas under one tree about a mile from his house. He took the mushrooms and found the same type of tree about 1/4 mile from his house. Then he crushed up the mushrooms and mixed them in top soil near the tree. Months went by and at the end of fall he had a harvest of maybe 5 or 6 sporadic mushrooms. I had one friend who actually found a small 2 and 1/2 foot tree which could grown amanitas under it and he dug it up and put it right in his backyard then crushed up a few stems and a cap and put it by the tree. The season went by with no results. There is no way to cultivate them without a host tree.

You would notice a ring of white "ash" (actualy spores) around the amanita, which is why one line of thought is that it is the mythical phoenix that rises form its own ashes... as new fruits will grow there again in the future...

I dont think shrooms are like this hardcore thing. Meth is like a hardcore thing.
I did shrooms by myself one night. NOT A GOOD IDEA. I was tripping off the christmas tree for three hours. Then I started seeing this little guy running around my house. I think I stuck in a gaze for like another 45 minutes. I didnt go to bed till 6am that morning.

Hey im shroom noobie, I was thinking about trying them out, but I like ot be a more of a soft drug guy, I dont like going into the hard stuff.

Would u consider shrooms a hard drug? Are they really bad for you?
There is no danger at all with using shrooms, as they are completely non-toxic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psilocybin_mushroom)

No, shrooms are not a hard drug by any stretch of the imagination but they are also not to be disrepected. Although they cannot cause any physical harm to you, they can cause lasting psychological effects on you (which is usually a good thing since there's not much else in life that can give you a perspective this deep).

They're simple to grow indoors, easier than pot (in my opinion) and if you're curious, see my signature for a walkthrough on how to grow them in your house.

i feel that everyone over estimates shrooms. be and my buddies have been shrooming for years now, and i always find it funny when i hear people talk about how bad they are. For us we look at drugs this way. If they come from the earth naturally we are for them, but if any processing has to be done or if they are man made we stay away. Really for us its just shrooms and weed. Now i know that not everyone gets the same trip and that different shrooms will make you trip differently, but as long as your with people you feel safe and comfortable with you should be fine. Just dont shroom with stangers for your first time, atleast thats the advice i give people i know.
