For all of the folks (science deniers) who think that climate change at the rate we have escalated it to is "normal" I would say 2 things. First please buy yourself a home on the beach but when the ocean rises a few inches and your home is swept away by the 2nd or 3rd "500 year storm" in a decade don't expect to be bailed out, literally or figuratively. Next go up to Canada and buy up large tracts of dead forestland and replant the Lodgepole Pine that has been decimated by the Mountain Pine Beetle. You see what happens in the insect world is that minor fluctuations in temperature can create a whole additional generation of insects per year. If the norm is for an insect to have two generations of offspring then there is a natural balance between predation and survival that you see in a healthy forest where often only damaged, weak, and diseased trees are attacked. With an additional generation the balance is tipped and predators can't kill enough to keep the population in check and it explodes eating otherwise healthy trees. Dead forests not only don't create oxygen but release additional CO2 fueling the problem, in biology it's called a feedback loop.
But most of you aren't really worried about that because you are too lazy to walk or bike to the store, too busy to recycle and too shortsighted and selfish to protect the environment (or anything else) for future generations much like our revered ancestors who did very little either. That and by the time your silly arguments based on Fox Facts are proved wrong by time, you will be dead and gone.
And as you may have guessed I was involved in climate change research with the Forest Service for many years and what we humans are doing by releasing sequestered carbon (fossil fuels) into the atmosphere is pushing a gently fluctuating systems to oscillate wildly hence the rash of major weather events we have been experiencing and will continue to experience
