Haha if you have no experience I wouldn't hold your breath right now, companies are sloooooowwwwlllyyy starting to hiar every1 they layed off down south, north dakota is still tanking. My superintendents from cyclone are guessing it might be this time next year it starts picking back up.... thats why im taking my happy ass overseas

Its still slow brother, but slowly creeping back up
I was waiting on a job in a molybdenum mine where I'm at now, with one of the largest mining companies on earth (top 5)...but they're taking forever to get back to me so I accepted a job in a gold mine yesterday (drove to the office to do paperwork and stopped by a clinic or a UA today)
Won't make as much at the gold mine but it starts Monday and should be interesting anyway...was told they might review/bump me up after a few weeks. I gotta find housing though and that's always a b*tch

Both gold and oil are a bit of a wildcard as geopolitical events could affect the prices of both, gold more so than oil. In contrast, a geopolitical event is not going to cause equities to go up. The oil price does not appear to be getting much traction, and considering the situation in China, that is not a surprise. Unlike the USA, a lot of oil producing countries really have no choice but to keep pumping no matter what the price is as they are essentially one-crop economies.
I'd like to see gold pop into the 1200s...but it could be in for a decline after that as there are plenty of gold-oriented investors piled into it. That gold may need to be converted into cash to pay off other bad investments...and debts. OTOH, a bonafide derivatives crisis could drive it up to unthinkable levels overnight. It is nothing to go short of, that is for certain.

I'm really not thinking too deeply about working in the mine. I just think it'll be an interesting stint and have no sights set on a timeline, I just take the best job available where I am (and this is a place I enjoy. I also would like to get into the craftsmanship side of gold/rocks and make jewelry (for personal use mostly, but possibly to sell)
My biggest hesitation with this job was finding housing, which until yesterday I was fretting about. The boss left a message yesterday saying "we had another guy ditch out on us and I need you up here, whatever it takes...I'll put you in a hotel too man"
So far between each interaction with the boss I've felt very appreciated, already...makes me want to dive into this learning experience and work hard as I'm getting those good vibes of loyalty already. He asked via voicemail today if I could start tomorrow but given that they're not working this weekend I said I've got some chores to handle beforehand but I texted him saying "I'm fully committed, be there Sunday to work Monday"

I pooled that down bc I felt like it was bragging, haha alot of ppl talk shut bout oilfield hands, lol but there is definitely a reason most our jacked up trucks and nice rides say " oilfield trash making that oilfield cash" the majority of us are balling out and spoiled to the money, but, it definitely separates the men from the boys. Not many can hang
we had an underground coal miner come work on the rig. he lasted 2 whole days before quitting unannounced
you wanna roll with the boys and make over 2k/week? then trip 20,000 feet of wet pipe & BHA during January when it's -45 (NOT including wind) and each connection broken soaks you in oil-based drill fluids
Doesn't sound like you sunshine? then keep your fucking desk job and let the others do what you wouldn't/couldn't do to keep the world running

I wouldn't do it for twice that much pay. Mostly because I know I couldn't hang with the work. Respect to those who do!
