I agree. Takes awhile to learn to judge.
I suggest letting a plant go WAY longer than you think. 2-3 weeks. You’ll see. Harder, denser nugs and better smell.

Those calyxes gotta swell and pistols wither and retract. I rarely look at trichs now, the plant does literally tell you when it’s done.

First...patience is the most useful tool, yet the last to be employed and seems to take a back seat at times, usually when our plants are finishing.
Second....Take all suggestions you can gather and collate pertinent info with your growing effort. That's gonna take time and "cultured" info.
Third....YES, you can use citrus peels at any stage of drying as long as Rh continues to drop, however slowly. Just take more monitoring but works great for vaporizer flavoring.

I know this sounds weird , but I just was reading about this on several websites . The thing is called water curing in Mason Jars . There are negatives and positives . The positiveve is you get a smooth smoke and some swear by it , but it removes Terpenes smell . Will probably remove Hay smell , but is usually only recommended for personal stash . Articles can be easily located on the web by searching Water curing Cannabis .

Maybe you could test this water method on a small amount , like a quarter ounce , for personal stash as a Scientific Data Point ,

the more I research yeah I agree now it was early. Tough will so much info out there on what to look for and I’m a newb so I’ll learn from that big mistake. My dry room was 50%rh/65 degrees with an oscillating fan blowing into the corner, not anywhere near the buds and not blowing on them. I have 3 beautiful Pineapple Express autos in the tent on week 2 of flower. These are 2-3x bigger and better than my first grow where I stunted and over/under watered figuring my ish out. I will NOT screw these up. But I’m really hoping some of that hay smell goes away from this harvest.

min superrr skeptical about water curing but you’re right, I don’t think it would hurt testing a quarter out with it and see what happens.

Im guessing the majority here have made the same mistake, or had to harvest early for other reasons. Just because it smells like hay doesnt mean it wont get you high or make good edibles

I sampled it last night and rolled a joint, when I ground it up it didn’t smell like hay/grass it cut ally smelt somewhat decent. Don’t get me wrong it wasn’t GREAT but it groundup alright and smoked well, it surprisingly wasn’t harsh one bit and I was high for sure. Even the ash surprised me.

OF somehow this water curing works And gets rid of some/ all ( :) ) the hay smell I’m going to Venmo you hahah. I’m happy I have 3 others in great health and I will not fuck this up this time

Not pointing the finger at you here, when I say I think that would be a total disaster. When you consider a good cure is partly trapping all those terpines as best we can. Turps = flavour as well and that's a huge part of smoking for myself.
Saw a video a while ago, where all the fellow ended up with was a brown, lifeless, cruddy mess. I'll try to find it. Water curing makes absolutely no sense to myself at all.

The hay smelling stuff that i have had, smelled fine when broken up and smoked fine... If its just for you, who really cares if it does the trick.
Next time you wont make the same mistake
Im still convinced the black ash thing is a myth. I have overferted, not cured or flushed, and still havent seen this fabled black ash or sparking

I only get black ash and sparkling myself, if my weed's still a little damp to smoke. Always assumed it's just pockets of water. I'm not convinced about the salt argument either.

Harvested too early. Trichomes are just one way to check but not the holy grail of being done. Some plants will start showing amber pistils weeks before they are done and some will never develop amber trichomes. I don't even bother going by the trichomes. I go by the look of the flowers. Too many people are just focused on trichomes and see a few amber and chop when the plant isn't close to being finished. That damn trichome chart that so many seem to go by is worthless as far as I'm concerned. Too many people go by that and harvest way too early. I know people think it's the standard to go by. I'm not one of them.

+1 on the trichome thing. Screws more people that it helps. Microscope is not needed

Glad to hear all that, and you’re right it’s just for me so I don’t mind as much. But yes, I’m not going to make that mistake again. I have 3 others in the tent now that look way better than this one did at this stage.

I appreciate the comments, and after a lot of thought I’m definitely the fence about checking tricomes. With it being my first grow I had no idea, there’s too much info out there. But after this fuck up it definitely makes me question it. I’ll be going off of look and keeping the tricomes as a secondary way of checking.
