Critque My Setup!

I have been looking at the different flouro tubes available. I think I will benefit better from adding another 70w hps. See the attached picture for details on installation. I could add 3 24" 30W t8s for a total of about 4000 lumens or add the 70w hps and get 6000 lumens. What are yor thoughts?

Mioda There is an intake. See attached picture. Thanks for stopping looking. If you have any other ideas please let me know.

Where is it cos I dont see anything like intake on your project or leaves I smoke are so strong. If it is that thing on the bottom I think this will suck all the dust and bury your plants.

Mioda Yes that is the intake on the bottom of the cabinet. It will be filtered. Also the cab sits about 12ins off the ground so I dont think there will be too much dust.

if you adding a 2nd 70 HPS why not just get 1 150 watt. the way i see it, less cords, and less change of an inquisitive mind poking around. i have a set up that im in the process of building that is very similar to yours. are you just going to vent it atmospherically or are you going to run some sort of filter. on that note what are your thoughts for oder controll

i have a box like it for my veg plants. i have a 250 mh in there and it runs cool with my ventilation. u can build a carbon filter for cheap. filters out all smells. i would go with a 150 hps at least. f. the 2 70s. might as well get a 150 and be set.

I would definately go with the 150 If i had the option. My local HomeDePot dose not cary the 150w hps lights. I am limited because there is no hydroshop near me and I dont want to order on the internet. What type of ventilation do you have for your 250w MH? I am limited on watts right now I want this to stay under 175w. I do have 250mh and 250hps but these are for when I can afford to have a bigger setup. I also need two sokets for the mh and hps anyone know of a good place to find them?

7MG I have been thinking about odor control. I think I might grab a carboard tube at work and figure somthing out. A simple carbon scrubber seems to suit me. My first grow had no odor control and I had no problems with the smell exiting the room the box was in. You could deffinatley smell it when you walk in to the room if the windows are closed. Do you have any pictures of the progress of your box?

Here is a different reflector setup. Would this work better?

I got 2 holes in my grow box. One at bottom and one at top. The top hole is connected via 3" flexihose_available at Home Depot_to an inline heating duct fan_also available at HD.

The lower hole is also connected with the same flexihose but not connected to anything. The hose is just lying there.

Now, I've taken the upper hose and extended it up approx 2' above the box_much like a chimney (in fact that is what it is). My grow box is on a table_30" above the floor. With the lower flexihose, coming down from the grow box and kinda spread out on the floor like a snake.

By doing this, I've created a strong potential for the hot air inside of the grow to be sucked up the chimney_I've helped the suction by connecting the inline duct fan to the end of the chimney. With the 'snake' on the floor so close to the cool air, it is only natural for the 'convective' flow of the air to keep the grow space under control.

Also, if you put a few bends_say 20° or so_then the light cannot penetrate but the air can move around.

Sorry for the long post.

Thanks that is very informative. I can picture what you are talking about. It seems the intake will not work in my situation. But I will be looking into these chimeny type things. My Ventilation fans are 120mm or 4.7". Do you think they would cary somthing like this at HD?

KM

ill see if i cant get some pictures up once i get home from campus. im assuping that your using a security light and gutting it to use the internals, and HD doesnt have any hps over 70 watt. i did go to lowes the other day and they have 70, 100, 150 watt available in HPS. dont know if theres a lowes close to you but its worth a look

Damn I wish I had a Lows near by. I hear there will be one sometime next year :-( Please post some pistures when you have a chance. Thanks

I use 4.5 inch PVC intake 90 degree curved hydraulic pipe located on the left bottom corner in the same high as the pot is. You might have little more temp that I have from my lights that is why you might add some PC fan to your intake pipe to push fresh air into the closet. But I had to build anti light tunnel attached to the pipe outside the closed.
Good Luck.

Is there realy a huge benefit from active intake rather than a passive one? I have noted your suggestion Mioda and I will see what I can design to work in my situation. I will post pics once I hhave completed it. I am thinking two intakes one in each back corner of the box. Would it be best to stager the height of the intake fan inside the box? I do not want to hydrostore prices for a 150w light when I can spend just about the same amount on a 400w. The closest lowes is about a 90 mile drive oneway (that is too far just for a light!!)IMO. Especialy with the price of gas now.LOL

KM

Well hear is my design for intake. I think I will use 1/4" fiber board. I will then attach the two fans used for circulation and use them for intake fans. Would this help more with the heat?

I need for the inlet to take little to no floor space. I figured that the cormers are wasted space ne-ways. As for paint no there will be no paint. I will be wrapping it with mylar. THe good thing about the inlets is all it will cost me is time. All the materials are free except for the fans I have already purchased. You cant beat FREE:hump:

I have a 250w MH and a 250 HPS combines they cost me about 60 bucks. i do not have the funds or the space at the moment to use these lights. I am using this small space as a learning tool. I do not expect to yeild large amounts from this setup but I do expect to have fun while doing it. I can use the same concepts in a larger grow later on when I do have the space and money.
