Here in illinois I know a few people running 6k and better and have been for many many moons and I myself have 8k and never heard a thing from any company as long as you pay you will never here from them.
I think what you have to ask yourself is "how big are your balls"
nice pic :)

I live in the states, and there's a guy who running 10,000 watts in the downtown district of a small city. His bill is easily 2 or three times higher then anyone on the block. Pays the bill on time, in full, EVERYTIME and has never had any problems whatsoever. They even sent him a Christmas card, seriously......

Hey Man I am in school and i got confused about it as well. Perhaps its the lack of education within the US not the individual. Cant expect someone to know what method other countries use to generate their electricity.

No expert here. Have heard of reports of busts and crackdowns in Canada directly related to power bills. Have heard of the power co. working in tandem with LEO. Better watch your ass bro. Here in the lower 48 I wouldn't dream of using that much power. Lots of people do, but then, lots of people get busted too.

yeah...gotta love how when one person gets away with it that means that everyone does.do you think that they raid every house that has a spike in their power bill...no..duh...but some do.ive known people to get taken down that way...and all i see is...pay your bill and the power company wont do a thing...no shit..they are not law enforcement.the power company will see the rise in your usage...they send out a "meter reader" and test to make sure everything is in check...which they dont notify you before or when they do.now how law enforcement officials get ahold of the info....who knows...far as we know it could be as simple as when a spike in power happens...local law enforcement might instantly get a email, fax whatever it might be.which would leave the power company out of the loop.remember people...dont worry about the power company...they cant put you in jail..worry about the cops that will

i honestly wouldnt worry too much..chances of any law enforcement coming down on you over the amount of power you use is slim...you have to use a ton of watts to even throw up a red flag.a few lights and fans wont do that.chances are nothing would come up if you do have a spike in power...just always keep in the back of your mind that it can

Just plug it all in and grow roses or tomatoes for 2-3 months. Everything goes well switch the plants.

LOLZ true puff. Something that flowers and requires the same amount of lighting just to test things out and see. I know I have not started growing yet and I am barely home. I plan on adding about 800W for my grow and when I go perpetual It will be about 1200-1600W. My major worries are the spike in electricity and the heat/IR sensors.

that many watts you wont need to worry...your power bill will go up..but not enough to throw up a red flag.as for the fly over IR fuckers....if you have a good grow box with a good layer of mylar on the inside with no light leaks, the IR bastards cant get a good enough read off it to make the call

There's another thread from a dude throwing down 10k watts he said his bill is only 7-800 a month. My bill was that this month with 3 a/c cranking. So fuck it it might go up like 2-300.

Let me just chime in here for a minute. Yes, I am new to the forum but I do not quite a bit about utility companies, power usage rates, and yes, cops knocking on doors (and battering rams). This is for the U.S. anyways.

Indeed power companies sell power, however, many of them are forced to conserve power. Ever see power companies sponsoring rebates for CFL's and other energy reduction strategies? They do actually. Some utilities in California actually make MORE MONEY, when they sell LESS POWER. Its actually a pretty damn good set-up conservation wise but I'm not going to get into here as its complicated. At any rate, in talking with executives at our local utility company I asked them about power consumption and monitoring and all that. He said they generally monitor things by grid. These grids are primarily separated by zoning. So yeah, 30,000kwh for an electro plating facility is no big deal. Single family residential however, that is a big deal. The average consumer in this region uses about 400kwh a month. So if your cranking 8 1000watt lights, you are 3,840 kwh a month. THAT IS A HUGE JUMP. That isn't "lots of air conditioners" or a couple huge flat screens..that is a house that is growing weed.

I don't think that the power company is in the business of discovering grow operations but you can be guaranteed that your massive power usage is noted.

In a very round about way I was hired to help a guy that was busted for a growing operation (I'm an environmental consultant and he built his underground grow room in a stream buffer..and I had to help him fix that mess). Anywho, so this guy has massive power consumption, and the power company thinks..huh, there is something wrong with the system out there, lets check it out. The go check it out and they see power cables running into the ground. Cables that they did not install. After returning to the office, having not fond anything wrong, they look at this guys records, holly shit!!! They call the police. Police stake the place out, and well, you know how this part of the story goes...lets just say he doesn't have a grow room anymore.

BUT!! there is a silver lining. This guy was smart and hired a good lawyer. The case was thrown out in court as the eclectically company, by law, should have contacted him first about the illegally installed power feed. He wasn't stealing power, but he did do his own feed line to the main utility line. Because they went straight to the police, the evidence was thrown out on some legal technicality.

Not sure what the point was as I'm pretty damn stoned and I'm prattling on and on but the bottom line is this....

DON'T BE FUCKING GREEDY.

back to the original poster..that whole "there is allot of legal operations here" argument will maybe 5 seconds when the cops show up at your door.
