Cow manure vs Mushroom Compost

Which is better, Cow manure or mushroom compost? Both products say they have the same amount of NPK at 0.5 in each catagory. My concerns are this. Ive read the cow manure has e coli in it and thats bad? But it has more micro bacteria than the mushrooms compost because the mushrooms were once sterilized. Which is better to use long term? I want to plant directly into the compost Im just not sure f it will burn

If it's cow manure from a bag in a store, I would be concerned about it having salt, which they feed the cattle. I think the shroom compost is better. Unless this is some organic micro cow situation.

The mushroom compost is good but just like the cow manure the salts can build if using it for a long time. If you read the 3lb's jog guide I believe it is they talk alot about mushroom compost and said they love it, but after a while they got some toxicity. Good luck !

Go to lowes homie n outside they got bags that say potting soil on then n they like whit black n red. Get thats its 2.57 for a 40 pound bag and its got a mixcture of shit inclyding mushroom compost cowmanure and perlite... Lol and other shit i jus dont remember

Yes mushroom over cow any day.. Cow manure is bad about having weeds, the undesireable kind, and unless composted correctly can burn your plants. If going with farm animal waste I use alpaca manure, Mushroom compost is what is left of the medium commercial mushrooms are grown in, so it is designed to retain moisture..

These are both additives to be added to soil...I mean you can plant straight into mushroom compost, but it is usually pretty heavy, so you have to amend it with vermiculite, or perlite, or both...
We ordered a truckload of mushroom compost for our veggie garden...I then added compost from the compost pile, a lot of perlite and vermiculite, cheap soil, some cow manure, and cheap bagged compost...it was a crazy mish mash, but my tomatoes are beating the pants off of everyone else's...
And bat guano...I added guano...

FWIW, it's not really 'mushroom compost', but rather mushroom substrate. Mushrooms are pretty much the most heavily sprayed edible plants there is. Primarily fungicides. Just saying.

I've tried it, didn't like it with my mix.

The cow crap is a good amendment, but not to be used by itself.

@missnu

Exactly the problem I had, too heavy in my mix even after a LOT more perlite.

This is in containers. I'll bet it will do great in the garden, where it's going.

You can do half mushroom compost and half something else.. But even thats pushing it. And perlite is a 100% must have

I dont' think you can beat it for the garden...way way too heavy to have inside though...even with the perlite and what not to break it up it is still sludge when it rains..but veggies don't seem to mind...MJ wouldn't either, if it was in the garden...but in pots I like soil...nice fluffy light soil. I can't imagine trying to move a 7 gallon pot of freshly watered mushroom compost Jeezus, that would be heavy as hell.

I used a half and half mix of clay garden soil and store bought bags of cow manure. Added some guanos and other dry amendments. The ladies I planted in this mix are the best out of all of them. I thought it might be on the heavy side since I didnt add vermiculite, or perlite, but they dont seem to mind, and thick white roots are coming out the bottom of the pots.

I move my plants into the bathroom to water...so I was more worried about the soil being heavy for me than the plants...lol.

The thought of spraying a mushroom bed with fungicide boggles my mind. cn
