    Thanks!
I solved it by buying another computer. :dunce:
My old one is still operational and I'm undecided what to do with it. Seven years old, so I'm not wanting to invest a lot. It came with Win7 and I upgraded it twice. Not sure if I can use my old license key to install a copy of windows 10 and I really don't want to do another install plus two upgrades.
I'd definitely go with a solid state disk for a clean install.
Or I may just use the free grow software from satan-what's-his-face and make it a single purpose machine.

A clean OS install will fix your problems, but you may still have driver issues on older machines.
Not sure if you have to start with the older OS then upgrade. That would suck...

i think the free win10 upgrade is over so it isn't worth it for a new license, still old machines and i really never take a laptop anywhere anymore so the desktop is fine. was a refurb win10pro 16GB RAM and 2 TB HD>>$200

My first one ever (not a build) was the venerable Radio Shack Color Computer (CoCo). Even paid extra for 16K and 'extended BASIC'.
I had to save everything on cassette tape because the single-sided floppy drive (180K) cost as much as the computer. :-(

This laptop is 5 years old and it's got no issues with Win10Pro, no need to change anything given I don't do gaming any more (got bored with that after too many years)

As far as the old one goes, why not Linux it and use it as a media box or for holding backups or your grow software machine or just something you can use to play around learning Linux/programming/etc so you don't banjack your main machine?

I tried Mythbuntu years ago. It seemed ok and user friendly. Only really remember that it had a native dark theme that I thought was cool at the time. Never could get my TV tuner card to work, then canceled my cable and just ditched the whole idea altogether.

I still run Fedora on my firewall/router and am pleased with it but it's what I know. My work machine is an iMac (with 16 gigs of ram LOL). I mostly run Windows via a virtual environment these days when I need to run them. But for checking if it's a virtualization issue or my coding on certain issues I have laptops I run Windows natively on.

Not lame at all, always top games but then other things get in the way, too many games repeating the same thing over and over, and so on. I'll use the PS3 when I feel like it, happy just now just chilling and looking at shit online nowadays on the PC nowadays in all honesty, occasionally I'll lose a day or three with Civilisation but half the time it's finding enough uninterrupted time to get stuck into gaming that's the problem.
