Hey sorry i havnt been around, ive been super busy getting everything set up and figured out financially. We are going to be running 150 1000 watt gavida fixtures and i am still trying to decide what growing method to use. Im thinking of doing SIP set up with soiless, i just want to know what the most efficient methods for bigger scale grows would be. I have done flood and drain trays, and i have done soil but nothing on this big of a scale. Any input will help, thanks guys. And also does anyone know what a budget would look like to set up a project this size?
I have one very good advice for you: Find a setup that you think is best and stick to it. Because often listening to different people will make you be unsure of yourself and change your mind every day and loose time.
Stick to what you know works. then you can change things gradually.
In the meantime this post might help you decide: https://www.rollitup.org/t/50000-square-feet-colorado-legal-rec-grow.883667/

Are you serious SCorganic? How are you asking these absolutely fundamental questions with ridiculous plans and you don't have a basic budget or committed to a feeding method? You could fake the experience a lot better if you bothered to research first. I love nerding out on this shiiit. Nothing wrong with being a newbie, as I really am one too, but there's a lot of [FREE] info out there that won't expose you as such.

For me, I've done 2 cycles of a few rockwool hand fed n' drain, with great results, but claim no expertise. Now just finishing up my basement 5'x8' room (CFL cloning wall cabinet, 1500 total watts LED, 6" fan w/ homemade scrubber. I've got about half in DWC and half smart pots w/ soil).

2 weeks post-flip, and just got a new platinum p300 LED a few days ago, and my girls are LOVING it. The spectrum on my 1200w china LED isn't good and I'll prob swap it out for another p300 (or 2!) down the road. I've turned 1 lonely femm'd Raspberry Cough seed into a whole room of perty lil ladies. My first Sativa grow.
Well simply because ive never done a grow of this size and obviously am not sure what methods work best. I never faked experience, if i did i wouldnt be asking these questions. If you dont have any helpful info then go waste your time somewhere else. Oh and this isnt a basement grow, its a warehouse which is ALOT different. So if anyone with expierience in commercial grows has any info, i would love to hear it. I just love hearing other peoples ideas and setups they created.

@SCorganictroth831 So? what did you end up doing?

@Marijuannoisseur How do you fill/drain all those reservoirs?Independently, one a time? Or you just have one HUGE reservoir for mixing and then just fill them up? And is there a 2nd pump in each just for the drain ? ::confused: (unlikely)
Nothing has happened yet, its a waiting game right now to get the right spot. I will let you know when i find out more details.

You're right, and re-reading I see my tone was more aggressive than intended. I apologize. I just down want to see any other enthusiasts get burned, in this case likely financially, by jumping scale without a rock-solid gameplan. But I guess that's why you're asking. So my bad.

I'm like you though, in that I love following everything from micro-cabs to warehouse grows. Something to learn from all of them. Good luck.

please let me know of your decision, to be honest I have never dealt with grows this size as well. I did see half the size. 2 rooms, coco, AC, hand watered. Not really much to tell. Would love to find out what you think and the pros/cons of a setup this size. Hope it works out for you.

Hey everyone im starting a new warehouse grow and need some opinions on the set up.
set up is going to be 100 1000 watt gavedas lights and im thinking of running flood and drain trays with hydroton in 8-10 inch pots SOG style. Just was wondering if i should run a bunch of small trays and reservoirs or if anyone knows how to build big trays and make a couple master reservoirs that can supply water to the big trays? Seems like it would save time to have bigger reservoirs and trays
Any input and ideas will be helpful thanks
Room layout idea...

40 feet x 44 feet
4x8 tray side by side with 4 foot walk ways in between 3 rows of trays and 8 foot end isles on each end of the room
mount 2 lights over each tray
fill trays with 32 2 gallon nursery pots
Use 1" PVC main line from 2500 gallon water tank...use electric valves and timers to feed trays...use pool pump
And another pump to return water to main res.
Each flower cycle will use 840 hours of Voltage...how much will you pay to run 1000w

can you elaborate on that one? I just don't get where would it go
Each tray will need a tank under it...all tanks would connect to each other and drain into a final holding tank where the water would be sucked out of and back into the supply tank.

Cooling & Heat

Use 5 ton heat pumps...mount the fan coil near the ceiling/no ducts just an air filter @ the return
1 system per 15 lights 10-12 foot ceilings

I dont understand how you are going to get 36 sq ft out of a 4x4 tray? The gavidas cover 21 sq ft footprint, so i was thinking of running 3 hids for every two 4x8 trays. I think that makes sense, let me know if it doesnt.

Also why not use pots? I have heard better things about using pots then filling the trays with hydroton. I usually fill the bottom 3/4 of the pot with hydroton then the top with soilless mix to keep the structure
4x4=36? Filling a 4x4 tray gives each plant a potential 8cubic/foot root volume. Separate pots is much, much less. Two lights over a 4x8 will work, might want to use 600's instead of 1000's.

Great info fandango, do you think 2 gallon pots will be big enough? I was thinking about 3 gallons? Also thought of using two reservoirs one for supplementing with fresh ro water to keep the mixing tank full at all times. Dicided to go with DTW so i wont need to circulate the water back to the res.

If anyone could recommend some good quality evironment controllers that would help alot as well. Cheers

I recommend using controllers from Link4Corp, the iGrow controllers are very reliable, I've installed over 20 of them and not one issue, programming is a bit tricky, but not that bad.
