Hey everyone im starting a new warehouse grow and need some opinions on the set up.
set up is going to be 100 1000 watt gavedas lights and im thinking of running flood and drain trays with hydroton in 8-10 inch pots SOG style. Just was wondering if i should run a bunch of small trays and reservoirs or if anyone knows how to build big trays and make a couple master reservoirs that can supply water to the big trays? Seems like it would save time to have bigger reservoirs and trays
Any input and ideas will be helpful thanks

I'd go 4'x 4'x 6" tables per 1 kw HID given a maximum of 36 square feet per table. Each table would have it's own reservoir with a 1200 pump located under each table. All the res' get their own air and are all plumbed together in rows so they can be drained from one end using a trolley, and filled using a trolley filled with the proper mix, using the appropriate attachments.

The waste can be used in the green room for moms and stuff.

Don't use plant pots. Fill each table full of the floaty hydroton gravel and plant five rows of five per four by four table. Seedlings are started(12/12) and FIMM'ed in the tables and clones go in when they are rooted enough to go in, ASAP. The preferred snips from the FIMM's will become moms and the rest will go for budding etc. It is best to plant/pull while the table is flooded. If you feel like saving a few dollars you can cut the hydroton 50/50 with lava rock grow pellets.

I prefer stainless steel.

I dont understand how you are going to get 36 sq ft out of a 4x4 tray? The gavidas cover 21 sq ft footprint, so i was thinking of running 3 hids for every two 4x8 trays. I think that makes sense, let me know if it doesnt.

Also why not use pots? I have heard better things about using pots then filling the trays with hydroton. I usually fill the bottom 3/4 of the pot with hydroton then the top with soilless mix to keep the structure

Pots are awsum https://www.rollitup.org/t/50000-square-feet-colorado-legal-rec-grow.883667/

Ive worked in gardens where they just put 2 4x8 tables side by side to make 8 8x8 tables, we had 2 designated nutrient res under 2 of the 4x8 tables, and like 4 more plain water res under other tables, just need a powerful enough mixing sump, obviously air stones. They also sell the bigger stand up tanks you could use for your master res as well.

100 1000's I'd like to see this.. pics or I call bs how you even going to cool all that??
Large central A/c units would cool a grow of this size. 10 5 ton a/c's would work just fine.
shit screw the cooling how you going to power all that
3 or 4 400 amp 3 phase power supply. Any electric company would be happy to help with, you'll b a great customer.

Operations of this size pop up everyday.

I love basic questions for large grows.

@SCorganictroth831 So? what did you end up doing?

@Marijuannoisseur How do you fill/drain all those reservoirs?Independently, one a time? Or you just have one HUGE reservoir for mixing and then just fill them up? And is there a 2nd pump in each just for the drain ? ::confused: (unlikely)
1 pump just for mixing, 1 pump to actually hand feed the plants, and a drain system set up at the end of the hydro table to remove runoff. I only mix what I need

Ok... so you're doing the "old fashion way" 8-). You have the tables just for the drain, I get it :)
I never had an automatic watering system and to be honest I was very concerned. Because once you know your garden, you always know which corner or group of plants drink less water therefore you can adjust. But automatic systems technically are supposed to be reducing the amount of work. I guess you win some you loose some.
On your 2nd picture I can see a piece of white pipe that looks like an irrigation system. How'd that go for you?

If you have local sheet metal shop in your area, give them a try. Had my trays made for under $70 per tray, and built to my design.
Can we get a picture of your custom trays please?

Hey sorry i havnt been around, ive been super busy getting everything set up and figured out financially. We are going to be running 150 1000 watt gavida fixtures and i am still trying to decide what growing method to use. Im thinking of doing SIP set up with soiless, i just want to know what the most efficient methods for bigger scale grows would be. I have done flood and drain trays, and i have done soil but nothing on this big of a scale. Any input will help, thanks guys. And also does anyone know what a budget would look like to set up a project this size?

Are you serious SCorganic? How are you asking these absolutely fundamental questions with ridiculous plans and you don't have a basic budget or committed to a feeding method? You could fake the experience a lot better if you bothered to research first. I love nerding out on this shiiit. Nothing wrong with being a newbie, as I really am one too, but there's a lot of [FREE] info out there that won't expose you as such.

For me, I've done 2 cycles of a few rockwool hand fed n' drain, with great results, but claim no expertise. Now just finishing up my basement 5'x8' room (CFL cloning wall cabinet, 1500 total watts LED, 6" fan w/ homemade scrubber. I've got about half in DWC and half smart pots w/ soil).

2 weeks post-flip, and just got a new platinum p300 LED a few days ago, and my girls are LOVING it. The spectrum on my 1200w china LED isn't good and I'll prob swap it out for another p300 (or 2!) down the road. I've turned 1 lonely femm'd Raspberry Cough seed into a whole room of perty lil ladies. My first Sativa grow.
