COCO.. What size containers are you using? Hows the yield?

Hello,

What size containers are you using for your coco grows? What are you yielding per container? I am looking to increase my yields and spend less time watering. The current system is coco, water once daily, 15-18 1gal containers per 1000w light. Each container yields between 21 and 28 grams. Veg time is 3-4 weeks, finished plants are 4+ feet tall and get kind of crowded twoards the end. Id like to use 2 or 3 gal containers. What are you doing and how are the results? Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions.

I'm using 5 litre's but I only run 12/12 from seed. I average between 20g-40g per plant using CFL's.

I'd imagine you'd be looking at 60g+ with a 1000w HPS/MH and veg time.

Done it/do it many ways. When coco first came out, i would do 16- 1gals per 1k light using drippers. I would shoot for 2zip plants. Then i started doing 9- 5gals, shooting for and getting 1/4 lb plants. Well, nowadays i rock 4 plants, in 5gals and guess what, i shoot for 1/2 lb plants. I still do 9 on some strains like og's.

move from roit roits about 12 days from seed craking, to 10 liter pots for veg then into 30 liters for flowering, i have gone straight into 10 15 20 and 30 liter pots, the ec control early on and the watering were a nightmare in any pot above 15 liters from the start,

do what works best for you, i've been doing coco grows for over 3 years and still try new things, here are some different styles i have used, some work better than others. these are all grown in coco, some with perlite some with hydroton and some just pure coco.


lemon skunk, 20 per 600w light with 7 days veg in 6.5l pots, i got exactly one ounce per plant, i liked the fact that there was no quality difference between the tops and the lowers.



g-13 haze, grown in 200l nft res with 3 week veg, two per 600w light some beds had 3 plants in some had 4, i got roughly 0.8gpw with this grow, not as productive as the lemon skunk grow but a lot less work involved.


some super lemon haze, 11l pots 6 per light, should have done 9 and i would have smashed it, as it was i only yielded 850g from the two lights, poor yield but quality green.


this is what i have been doing lately, mixing up genetics and pot sizes, the four on the left are an 8 week strain and the 11 on the right are a 10 week strain.
when i pull the 8 weekers the 11 10 weekers get spread out and left to chunk up for the last two weeks, it means i have more of a variety at all times. poor pics but you get the idea. the og strain on right doesn't mind being squished in under a light, they always grow straight up like bean poles so they do really well grown in this manner.


short answer is, it all works, you can make life as easy or as difficult as you want, so long as you know how to look after the plants you will get what you want.

I am using a 50/50 mix of Sunshine Mix 4 (which is coco) and Happy Frog. I am about week into veg from clone but so far I am liking it. Yields should be a bit better than a straight soil grow since coco is more like a hydro grow where you need to supply the plant with all the nutes in the water since coc has no nutes. It should also make a better root growing environment because coco is lighter and airier than soil.

Wow, some really great answers and pics from everybody, Thank You! I think it will be two gallon containers this round, maybe 9 per 1000w light. The media is botannicare ready-gro, feeding is ro water with cal-mag, generals 3 part, Liqud black crystal (humic acid), liquid gold (fulvic acid), and Atami's Bloombastic ph'd 5.7 (earlier in flower)-6.1 (later). I use mykos and flora kleen co2, ac etc... Ive tried the multiple transplants before with great results depending on the strain but switched to 1 gal to eliminate that step, may try it in the future with some 5 gals tho. I guess what im after is the highest yield per gallon(s) of coco used

Nine per thousand sounds good you should be able to do 5 harvests a year at that rate as you won't be able to veg for very long. I like the bloombastic but you don't need to use much, maybe like 4 or 5 times, I use it as a ripener mainly. I also recommend not raising the ph but lowering it the further into flowering you go. You should do well with that recipe, what strain do you grow?

Chernobyl. Ive been doing that strain for the last 3 years. The current setup is a perpetual harvest with 2 bloom rooms and one veg room, dam near 12 harvest per year. I agree bloombastic is awesome but I tend to go heavy bc of the results. Done side by side grows and the heavier amount of b-bastic always won. With the raising of the ph to 6.0-6.1 the idea was to make more P and K available to the plants. What would the benefits be of lowereing it, and how low do you go? thanks

I use 2 gallon hempy buckets and do a mix perlite/coco. The bottom layer is straight perlite (just past my drain hole), mid layer is a 50/50 coco-perlite mix (about half-way to my container), top layer is straight coco (all the way to the top).

Couple points to keep in mind when it comes to coco:
- RINSE IT FIRST!! I cannot stress this enough. Most coconut trees grow near the ocean which is high in salt! This can get absorbed by the coco.
- After rinsing soak it in PH-set (6.0 +/-) water. This VERY important! Every time you water make sure the PH is right around 6 (5.6-5.8 or so is ideal).

Good luck!

PS - stop worrying about yield!! Get through your grow, one phase at a time. When all is dried and cured, then count your yield. No use counting chickens before they hatch!!

you can buy coco already rinsed right
