Cloning in Rapid Rooters?

I am brand new to cloning and I have no idea what im doing. I have seen plenty of pictures of clones but none look droopy like mine are. I am worried that I have killed them? These pictures were taking a couple of hours after we cut them.

The room fan was accidentally left off so the room temp got to 90F and the humidity dome was left on the top of the light (to keep the rooting area warm). I am wondering is it normal for the plants to droop like this?

I cut the clones at a 45 degree angle and used "Dip n Grow" rooting hormone. I let it sit in the DnG for a Min then pushed them into the rapid rooters. I hope thats ok?

Also how long does it take the plant to recover?

some big clones, but i think you're fine. Just keep that dome closed for awhile and they should perk. About a week or so. Definately keep the temps lower. Good luck

I suggest taking smaller cuttings to begin with, but with my ez cloner and clone x ive had about a 90 percent propagation rate.

I read that my clones should be about 5in tall. My plant is less then a foot tall and alot of the leaves are bigger then my hand. Heres a pic...

Do I take 2-3in clones instead of 5in?

Is your plant in flowering?

Clones cut from a plant that is 1 week into flowering goes well. It allows the plant time to grow and make the stems stronger. Your cuts do look large. I wish there was some way I could help you make cuts. Move to West Virginia!

Picking the right place is a good start, and are you burying the steam far enough?

I always use soil and if I have too, I use a chop stick to stake it up. Make sure you are misting as they don't have roots to drink. I try not to take clones with fan leaves so large as they tend to weigh a clone down. Smaller fan leaves work just as well.

They don't like it too hot, mine don't like too much light...weird, I know.

I have cut probably about 20-25 clones in my grow career and only lost 2 of them.

Yes it's normal for the leaves to droop, especially with certain strains that have very soft stems, they about look fallen over for the first week.

It's also normal for clones to yellow out during their process. When they leaves start yellowing thats a good sign your cutting is about to root.

Leave about two fan leaves on the cutting. I like to clip the fan leaves across in half.

I use the rapid rooters, with CLONEX.

your doing great with the humidity dome. Get the flourescent lights as close as you can to the top of your dome without it burning the plastic. Leave your light on for 24 hours. Keep it misted inside your dome. Don't let it get soaking wet in there for it will cause mold. Just keep it misted, humid... put a thin layer of dirt along the bottom inside your dome, and mist the dirt. it helps hold humidity. Also, get a heating pad to put under your dome, and turn that on for an hour a couple times each day.

Your clones need to be at least 3 in. long. You need to lightly scrape the side of the stem at the bottom, about a 1/2" up. Scrape the side lightly to expose the inside fibers more, then sit it in your cloning gel. This helps the cloning gel soak into the cutting better, and produces more roots.

NOW, the real important part. The rapid rooters can be tricky...this is what i found works the best. Get the rapid rooters fairly wet the first time. not dripping wet, but to where if you squeeze it drops will come out. Then after dipping your clone into your rooting hormone, place it into we rapid rooter and take it to your dome, put the lid on and switch on your light and turn the heating pad on!

Make sure you keep it moist in there everyday, and keeping it humid in there every day. Lightly Spray the tops of your leaves to help feed them and wash out nitrogen

k.. the important part , part 2...Wait for the rapid rooters to become close to dry, this should take about 5 days if you are properly misting and keeping correct humidity in the dome. Once the rapid rooters are fairly close to dry, go ahead and get them wet again. Not as wet as the first time though.

Usually after you get it wet the 2nd time you should have your roots starts shooting out the side of the rapid rooter
I get clones rooted 8-10 days.

its a cool site to see, wait for the roots to develop before transplanting. Start with small mediums and work your way up when transplanting too. I use 12oz clear plastic cups with poked holes at the bottom so i can see the root system.

This is pretty much the process I follow. It's good sound advice. I would add that during the cutting (10-30 mins) I place the cuttings in a cup of room temp PH stable water with "Clonex Solution" (not the rooting gel) although afterwards... I do use the gel on the cuttings before placing them in the rapid rooters. :leaf:

In my experience some clones will lay right down and some stand tall with out ever wilting. I have a small group right now showing a couple of "kush" girls that retained a sexy "curve" in the stem after they had laid flat a few hours after cutting. I used a stick to prop them up :hump: In the third pic you see a clone that I didn't push the cutting into the rapid rooter far enough. You can also see this in the roots protruding through the side of the rapid rooter and nearer the top than the bottom.

All of the above is great info- took me awhile to learn all that. I also had my best success with rapid rooters and clonex solution & gel, until i found the next best, and actaully way better thing- aero cloning. Basically you can copy the design of the easy colner if you dont want to buy one. Theres many threads here on rollitup on how to bulid your own areo cloner for $ 50-60. The first one i built had 100% rooted in 6 days and roots from the top to bottom of a tote in 14 days. Not olny that, they never wilt and look like there still growing throughout the entire process. The aero-tote-cloner-beast sits right next to the mother plant, under a 400watt MH and oscelating:joint: fan, with NO DOME, NO MISTING, EVER. thats right, clones sit in the veg room with a fan blowing on them and they love it. And no more rapid rooters.....i love the fuckin thing, buy one or make one damnit!!!! serously- do it :) you will be thanking me kiss-ass

these clones are for the dispensary they want them in grow medium. btw these rooters are soaking< should i drain it?

If you over water and the medium and it becomes soaked at the bottum place popcycle sticks under the partition tray and allow for a space between the medium and the water. You could just dump it out of the tray but I find this space adds to the humidity with the tray evaporating well with the added space.

Don't leave the medium soaked. If you have to just pull up on the pod with wooden sticks and twist it 45 degrees and it wont set in the bottum but rather up a few mm.

Thanks, I've dumped the water at the bottom of the tray yesterday, I hope that will do the trick. Is it possible to suffocate the plant now? I mean it has no roots.

You do want air circulation because you are promoting root growth.
You also want to limit your chances of mold and on a heat pad your
chances will increase. And saturated siol becomes dense and hard
for roots to penatrate or gain fresh nutes from.

I think of it as a fresh flow that promotes a controled healthy growth.

So I am fairly new as well and all of this has been great information.. One thing I have a question about.. I'm using rapid rooters, clonex, and a humidity dome.. I just want to clear one thing up.. Should I wet the rooters once before cloning really good, clone, place a heating pad under the tray with my lights as close as possible? No water in the tray and just re wet them after they dry in a few days and then repeat the process? Also, what should the air temp be at and should I open the vents slightly to the dome for air or keep them closed for the first week to help humidity? I open the dome a few times a day to spray so I figured that was replacing old air with new.. What should the temp in the dome be? Sorry for all the question but haven't been having very much luck with the ones I've started... Thanks for the thread!!
