Executive order to print census questionnaire with the citizenship question is today's hot take by the shockjock in chief. It's clearly disallowed by the Supreme Court. If he does this, Trump's attack on the Constitution and balance of power would be impossible to ignore by the other branches of govt. Republican Senate would probably pull the Oregon right wing disappearing act to avoid having to deal with it.

Thought I read something about tRUmps EO on the census being illegal because the executive branch does not control the census. The congress controls the census, they can ask questions on the census beyond the basic head count.

What the Supreme Court ruled on was, according to Trump's lawyers, "why" they asked the question, not that the question was actually asked.

So what they're doing now is trying to come up with some new argument as a legal reason to ask the question. Trump is, as we speak, considering using an executive order to put the question on the census anyway and then have his lawyers argue that there's a different reason for asking it this time.

So, it breaks down like this in a layman's example:

You: Can I sleep with your wife?
Me: Hell no! What the hell is the matter with you?!

You: Well, I'm going to sleep with your wife because mine refuses to sleep with me.

I figured that yesterday's court ruling would be a pretty hard blow. It is a sign that the DOJ planned on some type of bogus argument that the existing legal team would not sign their name to (probably sensing a future prison sentence and disbarment if they did). And, while the Trump administration found some patsies to sign on, the judge told them to fuck off.
