The problem is the party as a whole supports corporatism. You can't support corporatism and claim you're fighting for the poor and middle class. Republicans have a lock on the rich vote, all that's left is the poor and middle class for Democrats. You abandon entire demographics by cozying up to Wall Street. That's what lost the Democratic party the general election in 2016, and they're poised to do it again in 2020.
