carbon filter?

CFM is the measurement you should be focusing on for a fan not static pressure. The Vortex VTX 600L is less than 300 CFM while the AC Infinity 6 inch is 402 CFM.

While the same size the AC Infinity can move over 100 more cubic feet of air per minute.

While the Vortex fan doesn’t list a db rating I can almost guarantee it’s also quieter.
Nope! Wrong! Try 497 at 0 static pressure. When you add flex pipe, carbon filters, and shit, it raises the static pressure which will lower the CFM. And the Vortex VTX has probably the highest static pressure rating.

CFM for a grow room can be calculated on a site that does it for you or by yourself to find that the bigger tents actually only need like mine (6x3.4xH79”) are only like 8 cfm. not much cfm is needed, but the static pressure makes the difference of the fan being able to pull air at all through the filter.

I have the S Line 600 and the pressure is 27 mmh20 which is hella strong. Unlike AC infinity, it is LOUD. Enough to make your ear drums rumble from pressure differences through out the house lol. High CFM just means it moves air fast but at lower power.

I know this much from trying PC fans as a inline fan. With nothing, a good PC fan can blow a surprising amount of air with long life spans and other nice features. Issue is, you put any type of filter - zero air movement.

With my early struggle on this, I have learned even a high static pressure fans will not move anything if the filter has only a slight but consistant layer of dust around it, clogging it. Only takes a few days or a week.

This was a pencil cup DIY filter though. I imagine this may of tought me rhe problem brand carbon filters can have too, regardless of fan. would be AWESOME if I could refill the coarse charcoal.

I read reviews that this indeed happens. Sometimes as soon as my pencil cup filter lol. I thought, nooo, not with that much more surface area?? I guess so.

So this thread turned out to be very helpful. Cool how growing has you touch on all kinds of engineering and science skills.

Your grow space measurements are ambiguous but if it’s 6’x3.4’x6.6’ I’d love to see a documented grow with 8 CFM of exhaust. :D

thats the speed of the air. mmH2o is the static pressure in water. So if it isn’t high enough, the slightest clog of dust stops the flow entirely. I am sure the suggested fans here do the job and the filters too, but just seeing what works for others. That they don’t go check up to see theres 0 cfm.

and sorry, I was remembering my 2x2 but did remember that the big ass tent was half the size a bedroom almost and did not require much more so figured.

The S Line is weaker than the VTX600 all around. And at 1" of static pressure the S is only at 39 CFM, VS the VTX600 at 1" is 318. Huge difference.
holy cow, this would be insane lol. I am trying to figure out what the AC infinity is, just says 503 Pascals. I could of sworn it was weaker. Low noise would be ideal though, otherwise I could use the vortex I already have but was already annoying some. If it had a speed dial I would choose that like the Max fan posted above, not looked into the power yet on it in full details.

Ya, I can't find much info about the static pressure of the Infinity either. Probably because it's weaker than the S Line.

Ya, the Infinity will be quieter, but at the cost of static pressure.

I saw @bk78 laughing at one of my posts about the VTX. I wonder if he has anything to add, :wall:

I did IT work for my entire life. I literally used a tape measure 10x in my life, never understood PH, or anything before this medical grow started. Now I'm super invested in science/engineering its crazy.

If only school had taught our classes revolving around cannabis, I would have had straight A's.

Funny you say that, even involves IT skills - cameras and remote smoke detecter/humidity/ppm co2 monitoring. I always looked up to IT work because of how badass it is and the insane things technology can do now days, relying in programming mostly.

Remote smoke detector, I'm going to need one of those too, f*%k! im gonna be broke lol

My minor was computer science. It would have been my major if my college offered that degree. One of my computer science teachers wanted me to teach an additional teaching class for the shit I was actually learning at the time. It just came really easy to me. But I would've got paid the same for that as I did tutoring so I turned it down, and told him they could come to the Math Center for tutoring. My statistics teacher asked me the same shit, but I told him the same thing. Send them to me in the Math Center.

Anyways, the VTX600 is gonna be louder than the S Line or the Infinity, but the static pressure rating is way higher. The Active Air fans are actually pretty damn decent too. They're as loud as the VTX Series. Not quite as powerful, but pretty damn close.

From what I found, Trolmaster X seems the most reliable. According to someone I asked, theres no way to shut power off to the whole building or structure, just high temp shutoff outlets from monster garden.

I feel like someone could or has solved this though. From what I researched, electrical fires are complex anyway and really could be from other causes like old arched wires in walls or overload, but still a couple good ways to monitor.

Trolmaster is 350$ but includes humidity and co2 ppm @ 50$ a probe, one year use. Was highly considering. You WILL have that internet connection and control though unlike unreliable “smart” detectors. Had failed people during real fires.

I used the VTX back when you were growing yellowed out ditch weed, oh wait….. Does it move serious air? Yes. Is it loud as fuck? Yes.

Instead of keeping the 6” turbine rattling my whole house , I switched to the 8” cloud line and will never touch those turbines again. Can’t even hear my fan now, and it comes fully apart for ease of cleaning. I still have 6 brand new VTX I bought on Boxing Day sale new in boxes. RIU10

I just use a 6" Active Air with a speed controller to keep it down running around 25-30% and a 6" Vivosun carbon filter. Can't smell anything until you open the tent. Been running the same filter for close to 2 years in a 4x4. Plenty of airflow through the tent from the 3 bottom vent I have open and filtered. I don't have any other fan in the tent. Just the exhaust fan. When you stand inside with the door closed you can feel the airflow from the bottom to the top.

I've been impressed with the Active Air ones too. I've got 4 that have been running 24/7 for almost 4 years.

Just thought it would be fun to add, this is on 80% with the speed dial and is enough for addequate negative air pressure for this 6x3.4xH79” tent. Huuge intake flap, like 10”x 6” roughly.

28$ 5w

Water resistant, dust resistant, 150,000 hrs (warrantied) lifespan, UL listed, 109 CFM but only .3 inh2o or 7.6 mmh2o. If smell was not an issue, I would keep it just like it is lol. You can get duct flanges for this, just don’t have one for the front (watch your head lol).

With flanges you could easily DIY a dust filter, the mesh size of like panty hose consistancy and change it monthly. Too bad smell is an issue though.

These are all great tips folks, thanks! Will need to decide soon. Will look into each product posted.
