i have a budget carbon filter i was wondering if this actually gets rid of the smell completely or just helps vent the smell out through the ducting ?

say what? the idea of a carbon filter is theres a fan that pushes air thru the carbon, (or pulls is thru the carbon). the carbon absorbs the benzene molecules which are the ones that stink.
what ducting are you referring to

i mean does the carbon filter actually get rid of the smell or just help move the smell through the extractor fan ducting i am talking about normal ducting people use on there extractor fans

I'm not exactly sure what you mean. A carbon filter works because carbon absorbs pretty much everything very well, so the hopes of a carbon filter is that the odor is filtered out as the air passes through it.

basically i am saying does the carbon filter get rid of the smell completely so there no smell of cannabis in the house or does it just vent the smell throught the ducting

yes it gets rid of all the smell! you should only be able to smell it in the grow room you want carbon filter>ducting>fan>ducting>outroom

You have to PUSH the air through the filter. You can't just place it in your grow room and expect it to do anything. So you need ducting, yes.
Also depends how large your grow is, and how good your filter is. For the most part they work fantastic.

it will only get rid of the smell if used correctly, you need it to move enough cubic feet per minute, and you need to make sure your fan and filet are both operating at the same CFM.

so if a filter is meant to filter 200 CFM and your fan is blowing 400, its not going to work like you want.
