Why is my filter leaking smell

I can smell a slight smell of weed exhausting through the vent why is the filter not blocking 100% the smell please help me I'm scared

Is my filter supposed to look like this? Is the cover supposed to be on it? Is it being blocked or something? Is filter to small? For 1.2 1.2 2.0 tent?

U scared? If its illegal where u live to grow I would be worried to. How new is your filter? Do you have a negative pressure inside your tents? (Does the tent walls get sucked in? Is the filter big enough for your tent? You won’t be able to block 100% the smell in flower. However I have never had problems with smell. The odor should not be strong enough to reach outside
 
How well it performs comes down to a number of things.

Quality! If it's cheap then quality control may suffer, maybe they're using crap carbon , maybe they've not packed it full and there's a gap, the air will flow through the path of least resistance.

Size! The air is going through the filter too quickly to full clean. Typically it's best to oversize the filter so it's well over the airflow rating the fan is pulling.

Humidity! If it's too humid they don't work well.

Lifespan! Again comes down to size , since a filter with the same rating as the fan will run out much quicker that the one that's oversized.

Ducting! If there's ducting in between and the seal isn't perfect then uncleaned air can be sucked through.

I have a wall vent I was just washing my windows outside when I stood underneath the vent blowing air outside I can smell a very slight smell of weed if someone stands underneath the vent they will smell put it that way

Yes the tent has negative pressure on I've turned down the intake if that makes any sense?

Spyder farm Filter is 6" in a 1.2 .1.2 2.0 been using it just under 2 months
 
Meters or feet of tent size? If 3x3x6 feet that filters way too small. Also the zip ties are a bad idea those are heavy and will break the zip ties. Are u using humidifier with tap water? Tap will burn off minerals and etc and clog the filter with white talc can see from inside the filter happens quick. I lost a filter doing that. Always use ro or distilled water.

Yes there could always be a faint smell of plants in flower when you have like half a pound or more. U get nose blind to it but overall it isnt bad but I would keep the exaust into the same room so it can just keep scrubbin it and shouldnt be so bad.

Like I just use 6” vivosun filters air pushing out vs in and its fine but will shorten life but Im ok with that. To make space for boxfans to avoid mold. The filter being that small I would at least keep up on the dust filter cleaning just toss in washer and dryer on delicate.

Would it help put the cover In wash?
I only have tap water pH 6.3 6.5
I exhaust into a communal back garden through a wall vent working really well until I smelled a slight smell coming out if all it takes is to stand under vent and smell even a slight smell coming out then I am on a suicide mission aren't I? Jhezz I'm shitin it I'm going to get a rhino carbon filter a longer one hopefully it might help

They are heavy duty zip ties
 
Yea your filter too small if you mean it fits to a 6” fan thats not what we mean by size but also length. I guess my 6” is 16 inches long but typically I thought thats a given when someone says 6 inch filter. The 4” filters are a bit smaller and the 8” are much longer.

Anyway if thats literally 6” long thats not enough for a 3x3 tent if you get full size plants. Or in general if thats a 6” fan its probably not meant to run at max speed. Ive only used vivosun and had no issues but could be a brand issue or whats already been said. I dont see that thing scrubbing my 8oz plant but could be wrong.

I use that 6” vivosun for a 3x3 with 6” inline fan on max to control humidity. For veg I just use a 4” filter and fan for a 5x3x6 on max 5 clones full size. It doesnt have to scrub much but have not had issues with that slightly under sized.

Yea I wouldnt trust heavy duty ties those dont even look like a actual heavy duty I just wouldnt want it to fall and break and severly injure plants. Id ise a rope pully ratchet or hooks. I found some that are as small as possible so it saves head space.
