I agree with all that. The fun aspect shouldn't be overlooked. Humans like new stuff, variety is the spice of life, etc. And while the cup may be heavily influenced by cash and High Times, that isn't necessarily a bad thing, money makes the commercial breeding world go round. No money, and much of the professional, accessible to the masses, development stops.
I think people should read your description of Blue Dogshit and take the winners for what they are worth and not trample themselves to try and buy the latest hottest strain. A top ten winner from 2003 is just as dank as anything in the top ten this year. If you've smoked all the top ten winners of the past ten years and still aren't happy then you can worry about paying a premium to get this years hot strain.
Of course none of this matters if you are selling. Customers demand what customers demand...sense doesn't always play into the picture. So you might make a business decision to get the hottest to keep your medical users happy.

I guess i agree with what your saying to an extent. Its the peoples vote that gets the Breeder a Win each year in the Cup. But, i guess the shitty part is that Hightimes has such a profound impact on the Stoner scene and Community, that theyve been brainwashed to think that newer and bigger is always better, and theyre always looking to have some brand new unknown strain released every year, to satisfy everyones craving for change. IT doesnt matter if you have a bag of some of the Dankiest fuckin OG Kush, Put right next to a fatty bag of some DANK NL 5 x Haze. If you name one of those bags Blue Dogshit, of course its gonna win, because nobody has ever heard of the strain before, and since its a potent strain anyway, your mind is gonna automatically snap into "This shit is the best shit ive ever had" mode, reguardless of wether its true or not. Theyre dying to fly home and brag to their friends about how they were one of the first people ever to smoke Blue Dogshit. In that aspect, yeah it fuckin sucks.
But the Cup is FUN for sure, lol. and If Hightimes wasn't such a heavy influence, im sure that there would be TONS of more entries with your more traditional Dank weed. What most of these people dont understand is, that there are only a handful of ORIGINAL strains in exsistence, and those are the strains that have created every single other cross known to man, no matter if its Martian Mean Green, The Black, 8ball Kush, Fucking Incredible, or whatever else there is out there, its coming from an OG strain. Without them, we would still be smoking on fuckin Mid grade Sativa buds, that only have potential to get so potent, before they reach their limit. If it werent for 5 breeders way back when that brought all them seeds from Afghanistan (The Indicas), and Katmandu, n wherever else they got their shit from, we wouldnt have dick-- Pot smokers need to understand that shit, and appreciate what breeders and growers have done for all of us.

I just got back from the cup a day ago and I came across this forum so yeah im going to answer some of the questions.
1.why did barneys farm sweep and not win the cannabis cup
Because They did not have the best pot, they had the best sativa and won in that category, Personally that utopia haze that won the sativa cup this year smelled like cat piss, I don't know how they won the sativa cup when the super lemon haze is a sativa too and it won the cannabis cup, shouldent it have won sativa cup too
2.attitude seeds...... Im just going to put this out there, they are not the real breeders seeds. heard this everywhere out in amsterdam, I bought my blue cheese seeds with a discount at a counter at cannabis cup at the expo straight from the guy and I notice on attitude seeds they sell the seeds cheaper......So if its to good to be true it really is....I mean if you dout me explain how they make profit selling the seeds.
thats it i cant type any more if you all should know the greenhouse and barneys give away pounds of hash and weed during the cup and thats why they win in the end they influance your vote, but I dident vote for either I voted for the grey martian which I know was the best pot.

i have never been to the cup, but i did read subcool's thread about his experience (as a breeder and contender); and i am put off... it all seems to be about money now, and as such i cannot put much stock into their decisions...
that being said, most people dont feel the way i do, and do read/trust high times; so you commercial boys have a good idea of some strains to grow out next year
