Can you do defend a loved one legally?

If somebody i know is getting jumped to the point i feel the need to draw my firearm, somebody's getting shot. And not some kid because i recklessly discharged a firearm into the air.
Of course, i'm known to some as the biggest dickhead they have met on the internet lol.

i think they give me WAY too much credit :)

Yeah but is shooting someone worth potentially going to prison for life? You know our justice system. If there's ever been one thing that has prevented me from withholding anger in certain situations, it's the fear of getting in trouble. I have all the self-respect and dignity in the world but doing something stupid just to show you're "not a pussy" is just unintelligent. Chances are, the issue at hand won't matter in the near future. Taking actions into your own hands can end up having you in prison for years/life. Gotta think ahead.

Precisely. If I need to fire, I'll make it count. I will do what I can to keep it from getting to that point ... but if the gunshot sound is made, someone just got at least hurt. cn

If you have a plausible self-defense situation, jail should be a low-probability outcome. This won't hold, of course, if the shooter's thoughts included "not being a pussy" ... that person doesn't have any business with a gun anyway.

The larger threat is a civil suit by a survivor. The way to prevent that is dead easy. cn

Interestingly, I remember hunters were taught the opposite. Muzzle in the air means an accidental discharge won't ruin a perfectly good dog. Different drills for different ... situations. cn

how hard would you even try to defuse a lethal situation? even when your dick friend is surpassing the highest standards of diickdom. would you pull out your weapon on your friend if he was threatening an innocent?

i tend to be more of a "once the gun is drawn, it is most likely being fired" kinda guy. They don't need to know i've got it until it's time to use it. It also has the added effect of making you think twice before drawing.

Not saying it won't be drawn and not fired, but odds are......

Never point your muzzle in a direction where you can't see where the bullet will stop.

Who cares if it's legal or not. If you make the mistake of trying to do harm to me or mine, you are going to regret it in a big way.

I can defend a loved one. Righteously. Legal is determined in court. Court, cops or the legal system cant defend a loved one nor deliver justice.

Until you stare down the barrel of a 12 ga shotgun and several handguns all at once,
you have no clue what you would do.

I know.

Who doesn't know what they would do if the had a shotgun and several handguns pointed at them at once?!?!? If anyone says anything other than doing anything to get out of that situation quick you're lying. Then you can go get your gun(s), come back, and kill all of them.
