can i use cfl lights with hps ?

my buddy gave me a hps bulb and i was wondering if i could us the cfl 6500k bulb with my 100w hps post some threads ppl need some advice

You can use them both at the same time, definitely. Use the HPS for overhead lighting, and place the CFL in the lower parts of the plant

6500k's help make nice dense buds. I can vouch (My buds have been the size of a nickel and weighed a G)

... ok, anyways The HPS is very good for light penetration as CFL's are not. Cfl's on the flip side will provide you with extra lumens at little to no heat rise. Keep a fan on them. The CFL's (6500k) will be very nice in aiding the HPS light during the Veging Process. However the Cfl's in no way compare to the flowering process as your 100w HPS. (you would need like 600w of 2700k CFl's or greater to compare.) Anyhoo. To refer back to origional question. Giving your plants some side CFL's along with the overhead HPS would almost be optimal for a new grow. Just dont forget the space blanket and keep an eye on your temps. Fans work nicely :)
