Came home and my MH was cracked and off. Not sure if i can get another right way. I have my 400 watt hps. Can I veg and flower on just that and that alone. Also what effects may I come upon using only hps as apposse to mh and hps ?

Thanks

I have a spare 1000w gavita that I veg with now after moving my cob led fixtures into the flower room. I turn it down to 850 watts and keep it ~5-6 feet away from plants until they're ready, no problems at all.

I did my first in door grow with hps only. But I would use CFLs to veg with before doing it again. Also I've had some success with led 19w bulbs in a diy fixture

I've had a perpetual grow for years and use only HPS bulbs. I veg with a 400W set-up and flower with a 1000W unit. They MH bulbs burn quite a bit hotter than the HPS and that is a consideration especially this time of year, especially in the flowering room. I get good results without any MH bulbs.

Good luck, BigSteve.

I was just too lazy to change bulbs all the time (i tape up my air cooled hoods to minimize leaks) so i just used hps only. All good...

I think they stretch a little more in veg but they don't seem to stretch as much after flip, maybe due to already being use to limited blue at that point. Or ofc it's pure placebo. But I think if you are going from 400 veg to 400 flower the plants may out grow the foot print and stretch regardless, if you veg too long.

I imagine you are unable to veg long going from 400 veg to 400 flower?.

should I be flowering with higher than 400? as I am vegging with 400. 4 plants at the moment , 4 by 4 by 7 tent

Your 400w will do you fine i think mate. Im happy with the results i get. If you have no heat issues you could go bigger. But if its just to supply yourself with good medicine than im sure you well get good results with your 400w.
