I don't work because no place around here does want to really pay you for your time. I think most jobs pay around 7 dollars an hour. It's not worth the time away from my family for that pittance. I'm not going to give up weekends with my husband for 7 bucks an hour. I'm not working on holidays for 7 bucks an hour. I'm certainly not going to "protect the money at any cost" for 7 bucks an hour, (which is employers around here tell you, if you get robbed, protect the money at any cost) Sorry, not this bitch......

I'll just keep on with the housewifery, at least my husband says things like, "thank you" and "the house looks nice today", I'm a fan of gratitude. Nothing is worse than an employer who wants to pay next to nothing and then complain that you aren't busting your ass quite hard enough for them.

Yeah, minimum wage sucks. But I'm willing to work just about anywhere
right now. I've been looking for a job since I graduated last June. But
all the managers say "we will call you in a week" and then they never do,
and then I call them, and they act like they're all busy and crap.

I'm starting college in a few weeks, and I could use the cash.
You're lucky you have what sounds like a great husband.

I don't even have a car, but I have a license. lol.
I seriously need a car, if I get a job, I will be walking back
and forth to work, and I already have to take the bus to
school when I start in a few weeks.

It SUCKS. ugh.....:spew:

I worked for a government contractor... Too fast is common. I had to leave. The day seemed to last forever all while robbing the taxpayers.

no government and no union. just drunk hillbilly bosses. i worked at hewlett-packard bending tiny parts on a 3 ton press brake. we'd come in in the morning and the shelf would be full of stuff to fold. once it was done we were done for the day. paid by the hour though so we had to pace it out. if we'd finish early i'd ask to go home. told the boss i had stuff i could actually be doing. he said he needed me there "in case something came up", and to go clean my desk or something.

i swept the shop while "being a welder" 3 times one morning. 4 hours i swept that day. got paid $23 an hour to do it. came in the next day and did it again. we played ping pong for 2 months straight one winter and got paid for it. boss insisted we put in "our 40 hours" regardless of what was going on.

I've never ridden a city bus Purplekitty. We dont have mass transit here. It's own a car or get to walkin. I don't even know if I could figure out how mass transit works. I've never ridden in a subway either.

I know when we go to the city (do I sound like a hick) we see the people waiting for the bus in all sorts of weather and we're always like "that must really suck, standing in the pouring rain waiting for a bus".

My husband makes enough to support me, our kids are grown and the plan always was when they are grown I could quit my crap job, and I did too.

buses usually come by every 20 mins or so, subways trains can be 5 mins apart during commute hours. when it pulls up, you get on. when it gets to where you want to be and stops, you get off. they have predetermined stops. you need to know these so you know where to get on and off. i think that's it. :blsmoke::mrgreen:

Yeah, buses do suck. But I wouldn't be out there in the rain. lol. I'd beg
for a ride before I did that. I don't know if my city is considered big,
we don't have subways or anything like that. And I was on Monster.com
earlier and they didn't even have my city listed under my state. lol.

lol, no, you don't sound like a hick, just someone who lives in a smaller
city so there is no need for public transportation.

and fdd has it right, the bus has pre-determined stops. I have to take
2 buses just to get up to the college. I wish I had a car, but I'm not
one of those privileged teens who's parents bought them a car while
they were still in high school....

lol. we're poor.

I never bought my kids a car either. They learn more responsibility if they have to work for it theirself, and they appreciate it more and take better care of it when their money paid for it.

Hmm, strange, I had to work to buy my first car, and my second, and my third, but I don't see how it's taught me responsibility.

Responsibility was more a matter of not wanting to be living at my parent's forever. Got to fly some time...

They have to deal with maintenence, and insurance and budgeting their money to pay for these items while still being able to afford gas.

It certainly teaches them more than just handing them a free car.

I've seen to many kids wreck car after car all the while their parents just kept buying them new ones. One girl killed her best friend in a wreck, and mom and dad gave her the keys back and she drank and drove and wrecked again within 6 months of getting out of the hospital. Today that same girl is dead, mom and dad kept handing her the keys no matter how many times she wrecked, no matter who she killed. This last time she was alone and the car landed on top of her. There was a cop right behind her, he reached down to flip on his cherries because she was over the center line and when he looked back up, the car was flipping.

I bet mom and dad reget handing her those keys now.

Yeah, though between my parents (who'd have probably killed me if I ever got a DUI) and my best friend (who'd have done the same, except a lot slower and more painfully) I was never inclined to drink and drive.

Easier to walk home, or just stay in the car (with the keys in the glovebox, or some where in the back) then it is to deal with a DUI. I can't afford a lawyer, or to lose my car. While I do live in a city, it's more towards the 'burbs, thus nothing is really in convenient walking distance.

And yeah, cars are a pain in the ass.

Insurance, Car Payments, Maintenance. Hell, the government could probably spur the economy by just giving everyone a car regardless of if they want one or not. It'd also provide some kind of return for all the money given to detroit. $14 Billion, that's like 560,000 cars (at $25K/per) So maybe not enough for everyone, but still. They could raffle them off to people or something...

You are probably right, cars cost a lot and that doesn't even count buying the car, tires, oil changes, wiper blades, gas, insurance, it sure does stimulate the economy.

I don't know if I'd want a "free" car from the government, got low jack?

Believe me, if I had a job I would definitely buy my own car.

Finding a job is tough right now. I just applied to 5 places.

It sucks, they want people who are experienced, but how do
you get experience if no one wants noobs working for them?

yes there is the catch, they always throw shit like that at people. Then other people are told they have too much experience. it's like no matter what you do, it's not the right thing.

Tell me about it.

But yeah, I checked craigslist, and a company is hiring tutors who are college
students, and people with BA. I guess I kinda qualify. I graduated with
a 3.63...

I hope I at least get a call back.

Tutoring, doesn't that pay pretty well? I know I could have used a math tutor for my kids, I really suck at math.

I hope you get the tutoring job, it'd be good work and decent pay.
