Preliminary costs of LED pay back real quick, mate!
Replace 1000w HPS with 1000w LED and when you increase to 5x 8 in same time you can almost double your yield easily. 8 Quantumboard V2 and too HLG-480H-54A would max. out at ~1100w and ~1,5-1,8g/w are doable with this boards. Would be 600$ on boards and 350$ for drivers and they last at least 5-7 years.
I'm pretty sure you have your money back after the very first run with this boards...

For me that's not a question, the only question is .. when?
I love the qp boards but to cover my space would cost at least 600 up to 2500!!! The cost are just crazy!
Work from the bedroom and get a DE hps. Please. Yea you can spend the money and out yield hps with leds and get more gpw as they say. However I absolutely guarantee you nothing beats the quality of hps indoors.
Iam 3/4 of the way done with a grow using the same said LEDs, and there is a noticeable difference in overall quality. Im terms of quality nothing is going to beat a DE.
Others may have different views, this is just what i am seeing so far. The said LED's are growing great bud, but not on the DE level for me.
And yes I love my hps haven't tried leds other than for veg but have seen them around and I just really like my hps lol

The one thing about growing is that if you want, you can read 1000's of pages on just one aspect of it, and still not get close to mastering it, or you can read 10 pages, and have a general idea. Lol, the depth or learning curve you want to experience is entirely based on the individual. Anything cannabis related definitely has a learning curve.

As for the lights. I'm running an A/C'd 1k now, and she's tough to keep cool. I can't imagine keeping a DE grow cool, in a tent anyway. Also, I have read about people buying the XXL Raptor hoods, and adding an HPS and MH socket into the same hood...or just two MH's or two HPS's for a 2Kw air cooled light. I could see using that with a lightmover in a 4x8.

I feel like if you switch over to the cob leds/leds you're going to end up absorbed into learning how to build them, etc. It's almost like people give up growing and focus on building lights, lol. HPS has been around since the 60's, it's been perfected. Only issue is heat and electricity. Thing is, I have insanely cheap electricity, to the tune of 9.3 cents/kW Hour. If you're not worried about electricity, I don't see how you can go wrong with HID/HPS. I'm not knocking on LED, don't get me wrong...I would at least give LED a shot if what I wanted wasn't so expensive up front.

8 boards are enough for a 5x 8' and you can copy the HLG550/HLG600 quite easily using 1000 x 1000x 5mm aluminum sheets. It's more or less the same, as when you buy 2 ready to use HLG550/600's. The only difference is you source your drivers and misc parts from a different seller. Build up would be the same and you could even use the same setup guide.

Yes, you need to drill a few holes for mounting purposes but that's all. No need for thermal grease or something like that. Screw 4 boards to each sheet, connect the boards in parallel to the drivers like in the setup guide and they are ready to hung up.
And if you need help, I or others are here to help you. Well, you could do it all for a little over $1,000.
