They might drop one of the felony counts and the misdemeanor, but, and I HATE TO SAY THIS, you're screwed. As someone else said, if you're on financial aid for school, kiss that goodbye to start. A felony stays with you for life, you have two on the same charge, that's automatically double sentence. If they drop one, consider yourself lucky. There are many ways this could play out, your best bet is to get a good lawyer that deals mainly or solely with drug charges, some of them are quite good at dealing with judges and prosecutors. I don't want to scare you, but in Iowa, they're pretty damned strict so you may end up actually doing a short stretch of time, maybe 30-90 days, plus probation, community service, and all the fines and fees that go with being a criminal. Sorry about your luck, keep us informed how this plays out.

Only problem with mmj state is you'll be considered drug addict, n it it'll be harder to find a doctor. But if one won't do it, find another. Also maybe say that they said you were a drug addict, you didn't. You used it for med purposes, also might help if ya said you were addicted to other drugs, and used ganja to get off the addicting ones. Another tip, if you gotta part time job flipping burgers, working at department store, or whatever. Flip the fuck out of those burgers, stock the fuck out out of those shelves, you can't screw around no more. A felon with no decent reference in this economony, please! Better hope mom's still got a spot on the couch for ya if ya slack around.

Yes weed is considered a strike, I know this firsthand. and they already are charging him with two felonies and a misdemeanor. If you're lucky with a good lawyer, and a fair amount of money, you may get the misdemeanor and one felony dropped, provided you plead guilty to one. Either way, yeah, you're screwed and it sucks.

My first offense in Mass I lost my drivers license for 4 years, and I was not even driving! I was arrested at my house, with under a pound! I got two years probation & a nice hefty fine as well . I was also from that point on a convicted felon, and it did suck for a long time trying to find a job. I was 20 at the time! Good luck bro !

agreed, any any other trouble, theyll hit you hard now. You'll get pulled over more all that shit. But ya closetgrowht, ak for a ctealth grow is not exactly what they call stealth. Ak,skunk, cindy 99, anything like that is a no-no. Should have stuck with a plain type, low smell strain. Even with a couple of carbon scrubbers, I dunno unless you gotta house with no visiters by urself or with a roomie that heeps their mouth shut and doesn't go braggin around the whole motherfuckin town.

this guy is NOT ly9ing nor exaggerating... great post for telling the cold, honest, gritty truth. In the age of electronic record keeping, that charge will follow you for life.

Dont be scared though. listen to what he said, and do it! If your lucky, and i mean very lucky, if you show you have made a change in your life, and are willing to continue that change to the judge (whether you mean it or not is irrelevant. however it is critical that the judge believes you) the judge may be willing to take into consideration your lack of previous offenses, current situation being a college student, and maybe reduce the charges and perhaps even drop them altogether. I wouldnt go in there w/out a lawyer though, unless your willing to plead guilty to the charges and accept whatever sentencing they hand out with no contest, because thats what will happen whether you like it or not.

I would also be prepared to be expelled from school. Alot of schools have a zero tolerance for that type of thing, and it would most definitly be in your best interest to read up on your schools list of laws, by-laws and student regulations before the dean summons you. And yes, the dean is going to summons you. be ready for it. you shit the bed, because you were sloppy, and now you have to lay in it.
next time dont be caught off guard like that man, your in college, supposed to be a smart kid. Act like it.

ur best bet is to find a public defender for that court and hire him they eat lunch with the judges and da's every day they can get u best deal. u go in there with a cocky hired gun like some norml ass and u will be fucked. i payed a pd and got of rather easy for what they had me for did 3 years in state pen it could have been alot owrse. but with ur small amount u r probly looking at probation as long as you look good and present urself properly

mayne thats harsh... is it really that strict there? I'd hate to live in a place that had such hatred for one of God's gift.

It sucks hearing the worst case scenarios over and over again. I was born and raised in good ol Arizona where you get a felony for a pipe or 1 seed or a gram of weed!! In my case that is three felonies... My house was raided for selling weed. I was in college as an engineering student and was afraid I was going to be kicked out of school. To make a very long story short- I was freed with no felonies, 1 misdemeanor, 6 months unsupervised probation and a $1000 fine. Granted, this decision came only after 10 months in court plus they stole over $1500 as well (it never came up in evidence). I learned a very valuable lesson: Contributing members of 'society' are much more likely to walk... So here's what I suggest: You're already in college- How's your GPA? Start studying your ass off and pull off straight A's. Join as many extracurricular activities as possible. Donate your time to public service- volunteer at boys and girls club or something. Bottom line is that you are to focus them on your worth not your failures. If you had been busted before it would be a different story but 'everyone' smokes a little pot in college. You have to prove you are not a danger to the people around you. You are just a kid experimenting and made some bad decisions... Good luck- my thoughts are with you

ya it is that bad for laws round the midwest. Midwest ain't cali, catch my drift. Fuggin bible banging farmers like texas. Where I live the laws are pretty lax on small amts though.

Sorry to hear about the bad luck Anonymous. Here's what I'd do:

-find out about places that specialize in "jail diversion". This will usually be some kind of program that provides combinations of community service and drug/alcohol classes/treatment. Get into one of those places as fast as you can. Bare minimum, get into an outpatient drug program and be squeeky clean the whole time (piss clean, dont miss a single f'n session, don't be late...just play ball)

-DO NOT GET A PUBLIC DEFENDER!! You will get a deal with a public defender but it won't be close to what a paid lawyer would get.

-be very aware of your image in court. Dont seem cocky, dont say shit like "it should be legal anyway". You're just a 19 year old kid that got a little mixed up in the wrong stuff and are looking to make yourself better for the good of all mankind now. Got it!

- You need to avoid getting a sales charge here. That might not be easy since you were cultivating. But the sales charge is what will get you time here, not the cultivation so much. If they caught you with a scale or any bags and sales-related stuff like that, this could be tough. You only ever grew for yourself...got it. You were just tired of contributing money to drug dealers for something you could just as easily do yourself.

Thanks butters, yeah, they found a scale, but truthfully i can say the scale was only for me to see how much i got off of my grow. I told the police that and was very cooperative, they also said that they would try to help me out as best as they could in court because of this so I am hoping that i can get that dropped, thanks for everyone's contributions to this thread, keep them coming please.

ya, keep mouth shut is right. They listen to yer phone calls, and everything you say. I remember a field trip in school, they took us to a room, clicked on some calls, and let us listen in.
