Building a Trimmer

I love to build things, anything and everything. I was thinking about growing a commercial grade trimmer.
This is my first year growing, so never really looked into trimmers.
Have looked at alot of trimmers and have some ideas.
What I would like is what are some of your ideas that you would like to see in a trimmer.
What are things you don't like about trimmers.
I always like to think I can reinvent stuff, and I have at times. Mainly farming equipment.

Any and all input, wether your a noob, like myself or a veteran is accepted.

And as always if you feel like bashing or being critical on this thread, save your time and KEEP IT TO YOURSELF. Everybody should be treated with respect.

I like building and rebuilding stuff too. DIY is the best, usually....
What I would do if I were to build a trimmer, I'd start with some hair clippers, and go from there.
That would only be good for a small hand held trimmer though. To replicate one of those nice automatic
ones that are out there, I do not have the slightest idea.

I've trimmed plenty of bud before, it can be pretty tedious. You got me thinking now....

Ok first off, this post has been here for almost 3 weeks without ANYONE saying ANYTHING and now 2 people in 15 minutes. Hmmmm, anyways... That is a good idea, the clippers that you need to do something that that would be a beard/ nose/ mustache trimmer. Perfect sized.

I don't think the big ones would work too efficiently, but the smaller ones like you said might.
I always wanted a trimmer, but they're pretty expensive, and I never had large amounts to
trim, so it'd be an unnecessary luxury at least for me....

I was bored, and going through threads to soak up any useful info that may help me, I am new to the
indoor growing, I came across this, and thought I'd throw in my 2c, as I always liked building things...
Hopefully if the OP tries to build one, he has good luck with it. I might try to make one as well. Someday....

I had never thought of doing an electric one that would have saved me n my wife 14 hours worth of work with my last batch. what a pain in "the hands" fun fest! thats shit sucks. AND we had to do so much last time that i didnt have time to screw around but once you get going it can go slow because you stop to look, smell, and inspect every bud saying... "Whoops, dropped that one, better keep it for myself". haha it happens A LOT!

I really want to build one now. Something like in the video, but a fixed unit, like connected to a stainless steel bowl, and a clear lid, so it can be used
inside. I bet it could be done for like $50. Less if you already have some of the stuff, the motor doesn't need to be too powerful I imagine... Something
that can plug up with a 12v ac adapter. Or maybe a motor from a small axial fan.

damn thats a huge cola! anyways the rotary tool he is using is much too big unless you are doing buds from big outdoor sativa plants like that. (it actually looks like indoor but it looks like he had ample grow space) now about the rotary tool. if you want one smaller then what you need is a small Dremel. you can get one by itself for under $20 or one that comes w/ something like a 100 piece kit for about $40. The good expensive ones can even control the RPMs. The under $20 would work fine too because it wont spin up nearly as fast as the one that he had. Id say that was probably right around 5000RPM. way more than you need for that. and if you get the Dremel with the whole kit ill bet that there is a tool in there that would work just fine so that it didnt even have to be altered. You can even buy the Dremels at Walmart, or any hardware store of course.

I bought a Dremel Trio at Home Depot, it was like $100, best tool I have. It has the speed control in it. Even at the lowest speed, it seems like it may
be too fast, but I never used a trimmer before. It probably wouldn't be too difficult to fashion a special blade for it for trimming.

god thats gotta be the most expensive one they make! home depot is overpriced just like most places but you must have all the tools with it then too right?

It was an impulse buy, it was near the checkout. Wal-Mart probably has it for like $20 cheaper. This is the one I got:
http://www.homedepot.com/Dremel/h_d1/N-5yc1vZgr/R-202191124/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053
I originally wanted a cheap $20 one, but this was their only one that I could use.

The OP of this thread has a lot of reading to do tomorrow, if he even looks at this thread again.......

I just wanted something that cut wood, and maybe drill too. This one does that, sands, and it is a router.
I build my grow cabs with it. And now that I am finished with them, and yet to even use it, I want to go bigger.

Is that sand? Just on top I imagine right? I do believe I seen that pic in another post, and said it was just on top.
Looks like it should make it. I never cloned anything before, but I have a jar of cloning gel for when I am ready.

I need a new car too, it's a lease, and it is over in a few months. I bought it when I had a good job, now I work from
home as a web designer, and might not be able to get the financing for a new one. So, I might buy an older car. Nothing
wrong with driving a 10 year old car.

If you get the Dremel Trio, make sure you get some spare cutting bits, I have gone through about 4 of them already in 3
months. Those are $12 each. There is a more expensive one that is supposed to be able to cut metal, I never bought one,
it's like $25 I think.

That guy in the video is a forum member (screen name Tat2ue). Talked to him several times, real cool guy. He grows indoor single cola (lolypop style) indica in a homemade flood table. 3.25 plants per square foot!!!

Anyway, that trimmer doesn't do anywhere near a good enough job in my opinion. look how leafy the bud still looks after. here is mine from yesterday by hand (and it still isn't perfect)
