Bud Flavor - Does it exist?

Do you genuinely think different strains have the flavors they're advertised as having? Flavors like sour, or berry, cotton candy, or sweet? I'm a certified beer judge and judge in homebrew competitions. I was also raised on fine wine and developed a palate for wine at an age when most were drinking it out of a box. My palate is a lot sharper than most, yet regardless of the smoke, it all sort of tastes the same; earthy, spicy and smooth. And this isn't just my stuff, I've been to Amsterdam and know other growers with equal amounts of experience. I've also traveled down the path of organic, hydro, and dirt. There may be subtle nuances that change from strain to strain but it all just sort of tastes the same to me.

Your thoughts, and be honest.

My Sensi Seeds, Big Bud taste really old school skunky with a cheese aftertaste...My GHS,Trainwreck taste really fruity. My Barney's Farm, Bluecheese taste like blueberries...very distinct taste that noone debates. I've grown many strains...but these are my all time taste/smell favorites. I have a few other keeper's also... Give'em a run if ya get the chance. I'm with you though, 80% of strains aren't that impressive.

I'd have to agree with you, except for those that add juice or something (flavoring) to their harvest. I'm pretty sure it does affect the smell (OJ = citrusy smell) but I'm not so sure about taste. It varies, and I notice it, but it's not always as advertised by the name.

You'd most likely have to vaporize to get the full taste. My extreme air never fails to bring out the lovely taste of bud.
doesn't make sense to me...i always assumed that all vaped weed would taste the same...unless the chemical thc has flavors?

A lot of people I know say they really can't tell one strain from another to them its all just weed. Not true for me I don't know if I can taste a difference every time but I can definitely smell and feel a difference. For example the feeling between my two favorites blue dream and purple kush is totally different . To be honest I can't even taste the weed unless I smoke it in a joint, through a pipe everything tastes the same :bigjoint:

I think you're right to an extent; that most everyday bud tastes very similar. But there are obvious taste differences when smoking a cheese, or a diesel, or a very fruity strain like grapefruit. But all the kush's, skunks, most of it blends together with the earthy taste, with very minimal change in undertones.

A lot of the taste depends on the grower, the cure, and proper flush and harvest time. Each strain has a distinct taste if grown properly. Lots of today's grows are all about speed and somewhere in the process the taste is lost on lots of varieties. You do not have to vape to experience the fine taste of well grown herb, any clean pipe will let you experience the differences of each bouquet.

People who add flavors or use flavored papers to roll are just apprentice smokers. These people should just buy some clove cigs and just get drunk and leave the bud to people who appreciate it.

I agree flavor has alot to do with the process and method in which it was grown but I don't agree with you about the flavored papers. Not all people that use flavored papers are drunk amateurs (though many of them are). I think if paired right the flavored papers help the flavor of the smoke. (For example a light flavored blueberry paper with a more fruity strain) For the most part I roll all of my joints with the same grape paper, after a while I got used to the taste of the grape and only taste the bud.

mids taste minty
kb abd headies generally taste the same to me
sour diesel tastes legit sour
and this one time i smoked weed that tasted like nachos hahahah
but theres also thousands of dealers who just say their weed tastes like blueberry and s**t..ther just trying to make it seem better and thus more expensive. if you have the choice between "lemonaide haze" and headies, just save your five bucks and pick the headies. youll get just as high IMO.

in my experience, the flavor only differs minimally. seems to me its more bout how well it was cured. GRANTED i have tasted a few 'berry' and 'fruit' strains that i swore i could taste some sort of fruity citrus like taste in.

For the most part, pot tastes like pot. BUT there definitely are exceptions. One in particular is Barney's Farm Amnesia Lemon. That stuff smells and tastes just like lemons! Everyone who I've smoked any with has been very impressed with the fact that it actually DOES smell and taste like lemons --- not just citrusy (is that even a word?), but just like sucking on a ripe lemon with sugar on it or like fresh lemonade. The first hit on a fresh bowl of Ceres Orange bud is equally impressive, but only for the first 1 or 2 hits --- then it tastes just like most other pot.

Personally I haven't smoked muc for 30 years until the last 6 months anf have tasted only a few different varieties so far. Smell varies wildly, but taste was pretty much the same. I have a theory that there really is only one old guy who wrtes all the blurbs for all seed companies, tomatoes, peppers, pot, he doen't care :) I just start giggling when I read seed advert like "hints of berry and citrus with just a dash of diet Dr. Pepper"

I've smoked out of a Volcano before and it tastes exactly like how the weed smells. That's the best way I can describe the taste of a vape. I also agree with almost everyone else, there is definitely a difference in taste between each strain. I have tasted all kinds of different flavors of cannabis all delicious in their own way. I even have strains that I favor more than others just because of the taste and smell. I feel sorry for those of you who cannot taste their weed the way I do, it's one of the best things about the plant.

for the most part it's all the same for me a lot of indica where i'm from, the only distinctive strains i've smoked are cheese, blueberry, ak47, and a fruity sativa years ago, other than that it's all pretty much the same skunky earthy taste, i'm currently looking for fruity strain and may have to go with a blueberry after trying several fruity strains that aren't fruity at all
@ Homebrewer i also saw a strain that looks remarkably like your purple1 it's called killing fields by sannies seeds it's a 12wk strain, i'm thinking of getting some seeds of it from them if my heavy duty fruity doesn't work out something to go up against serious seeds ak and wr

...I taste the undertones on the exhale...but I cant be sure if I'm actually taste them or if the smoke envelops my nasal cavity and delivers the aroma to my taste buds, kind of fooling my tast glands..

...but I'm lit so if that doesn't make sense..well, sorry.
