BS240 VS HSS a non scientific comparison

also the conkushion in blue bin #1 is doing the best of all and it does get a fair amount of the blackstar but it's right under the HSS as well... doing better than the conKushion in the laundry basket that doesnt get much HSS... but so many things comes into play, different strain, different container... I am confident that the blackstar 240 is a good flowering light... now I am not sure that it can grow monster buds but we shall see. I LSTed the Grapefruit so that it grows a bunch of medium size buds as suppose to 1 big bud, with that said only time will tell, stay tuned!

Oh you can get big buds from a 240w blackstar... Buds I've grown under a single 240w blackstar:

These are a couple harvest pics from my first grow ever. A fem Nirvana AK48 from seed, entire cycle under a single Blackstar 240w:

I am on my third grow now, and the results are repeatable. These next two are from my 2nd grow... a fem Reserva Privada Kandy Kush from seed:

Psytraceorgy, how long are you vegging your plants for before the 12/12 flip?
From my experience, longer veg times make all the difference when growing with LED's.
An LED crop can't be run like an HPS crop, they're different lights, so different techniques are necessary.
That is the mistake most growers make with LED's.

Do you mean that plants under LED should be veg longer or not for too long?

To get the best out of your light, it's best to either scrog and veg long, or 12/12 from seeds with lots of plants, this is true for any lights but even more with LEDs because the LEDs light dont penetrate deep in the canopy, ... I have not done much to my plants that are growing from seeds and I think the yield will be greatly affected as suppose to the Grapefruit that vegged for quite some time and has loads of bud site at the same level. Still though people are skeptical about LED growing big buds and I am hoping I can grow a few under the HSS since each plant has one main top, no fimming or topping.... just a little LSTing.

The longer the veg time under an LED light, the bigger the harvested crop will be.
Big buds are absolutely possible under LED, its just the waiting through the extended veg time that is tough (for most).
This was my Grape Stomper at 6 weeks of flowering, after 2 months of vegging, under 1W LED's.

Very impressive for just 135w..you're an excellent grower to get that kind of result from a single Blackstar.;-)
Be safe and happy growing..

I did veg the AK48 for a good while... Between 5-6 weeks. Kandy Kush was vegged 4 weeks, and I played with a small scrogg (experimental). Currently, I have a Purple Haze that was vegged for nearly 3 weeks. All 3 of these plants stretched, got large and filled up my 2x4x5.5 tent. I use a Waterfarm, and they promote very explosive growth... I will be using scrog and 3-4 week veg times moving forward... I had a TGA Agent Orange that was a couple weeks older than the Purple Haze scrogged in there with the PH, but it turned out to be a male and had to be murdered... :(

Thank you PSUAGRO, but I give the credit to the Waterfarm... They are quite amazing! I'm noob!

all I can say for sure is that this picture was taken November 20th.
the grapefruit is where its at now, to the left, I got rid of all other clones that were in that laundry basket, and one of them in small container is the Super lemon haze currently flowering next to the conkushions at the back of the laundry basket

Very happy with the blackstar so far, the buds arent huge, but collectively they are starting to put some good weight on the plant... should be about 30ish days to go, so lots of time to get bigger. Some buds are growing right against the door and they look kind of funky, probably the biggest buds on the plant though. Things are a bit slower on the other side of the cabinet, but the plants were way behind and didnt get to vegg at all. Everything is going good anyway, maybe some sign of deficiencies but I gave them a bit of epsom salt and otherwise they have the same soil as the Grapefruit so it should be fine. I dont think I like long and skinny container, I am not sure I will ever reuse these blue bins.

I am trying to remove the red in the pics with Lightroom, some pics I do better than other, I unplugged the blackstar for the pics but there is still quite a bit of red that shows from the HSS on the camera. hope you enjoy them anyway :leaf:

Looking good Endur0xX! It does looks to me like a blackstar 240 ($279) might outperform/at least perform as well as a HSS PPF-400Rv2 ($349)... I am not saying this based on your grow alone, but upon my own grows with blackstar 240 panels vs grows I have found with HSS panels... anyways, what say you? I am looking forward to the results... good job!

if I was to buy more leds tomorrow, it would be blackstars over all LEDs I have, considering price/performance... but not sure yet, we will see how those buds turn out and if they can compare to the mother plant grown under HIDs + 100W led (somewhat compare, obviously the Grapefruit I am growing in the cabinet is getting about 4x less power!!)

mother plant freshly harvested currently drying:

any updates? i'm on the edge of my seat for this. your like batting lead off for me right now hahah so i hope the yield is a monster.

hehe thanks for following,. I slowed down the updates, I thought psytranceorgy was the only one to care! Yield won't be huge, but considering that this Grapefruit is not getting 100% of the 135 watt... it should be very decent, hoping for 2 oz from it hehe. The SLH seems to be from a bad genetic or just a low yielder, growing a nice bud anyway, the conKushion never developped nice leaves because the fan is blowing too hard on it but at the same time I got to keep the airflow going in there so that one won't amount to much. The other 4 in the blue bins are coming along nice, nothing impressive, actually the baby is having a bit of a struggle but it's gonna make it. pics to come sometimes this morning.

I wanted to add the 90 watt quadband UFO in the mix, didnt really know where to put it and I had it like 2 1/2 inches from the chemo mainly for a day and I think it burnt a few hairs... unless some hairs are turning orange that early. Anyway I went to move the light and I realised the fans werent working. so basically its broken... Anyone know if its fire hazard to run it or it will just burn the diodes quicker to run it without the the fans, because now I am planning on using it in my main room until it dies.enjoy the pics

Also I got the blackstar sideways just before the pics and the grapefruit will be getting a little more light
