Yes it was the Gold Seal hash I miss

Ok, maybe this is for another thread but never hurts to ask.
15-18 years ago at the end of a summer a shipment of weed came around.
It was very dense, it smelled n tastes like oranges . It didn’t have a orange hint or suddle flavor of orange it was 100% orange
After that I’ve tried about 10 orange strains looking for her,
I’m thinking it was a chemical put on the buds any ideas ?
15-18 years ago I would of been in Ontario so can't really say.
It certainly wasn't unheard of way back when of idiots using arm and hammer carpet cleaner on there buds. So spraying with orange wouldn't surprise me at all lol
The original Mango is the closest I have ever had to what you are describing.
Cheers :)

Chapter 4 of D Golds Cannabis Alchemy has an old school hashish recipe. Basically powdering dry bud, separating the oils and plant materials with alcohol first then water, and then drying out the plant material and recombining them. page 37, check it out. probably not the recipe we are looking for, but maybe.
That’s a good read
Just did cover to cover. Going to read it again, and build myself a new toy.

I just caught the # I member lol

Wasn't most hash in those days from the middle east? That'd lead me to believe is wasn't made with water or alcohol. Being that alcohol would be imported and water so scarce. Growers would use whats readability avail. Exp in those areas where the growers aren't getting shit for there products from mulisha types. It's prob sift hash using a larger micron. Then pressed into pucks.

Thanks for the recipe :)
YW. Using said method it comes out pretty solid and pliable. Best to store it in the freezer. Keeping it in the freezer makes it very hard. The warmer it gets the more pliable it gets.
But when comes out of the freezer it's very easy to cut and portion.
You can actually smoke it out of a bowl as well it you top a nugget with it. It melts down the hash into/onto the nugget and makes it burn super slow.
It'll make your pipe dirty AF after a lot of use though so just a heads up on that.

Now you guys have my mouth watering big time. I use to love the black gumball hash 20years ago that seemed abunbent. Now I cannot find anywhere. I have ordered from a few of the online places but damn not the same in texture or the high. Maybe expecting too much. But yes I would love to find some of that, played with it a lot back then. Lol. Hot knifing on the stove elements or with a torch, or making a pipe with a toilet paper roll and tinfoil. Awesome for hash. As well as just heating it a bit and having it crumble and roll into a joint. Wow I miss those days.
I always heard it came from the Quebec area or so the story was. Yes gold seal was the name and the odd chunk had a good strip. Some even came packaged in a red cellophane type material also.
I will have to try and duplicate the recipient.

Thanks for sharing.

Cheers

A LOT of it was indeed imported from there. From my limited knowledge from those parts of the world there is very few times a solvent or anything is used. It was more or less simply large quantities of finger hash. As in hash from handling and or even certain specific hash making processes with just the plant material.
There was a certain general store owner and his brother who owned another corner store ( both Lebanese) who would take local growers product and turn it into incredible hash as well. I was much too young at the time to know much beyond that lol

I've been making what I call Honey Hash for a while now. Reminds me of the Temple Ball hash we got in the late 70s in Calgary.

About 1g of BHO to 4-5g of kief from a 180micron screen. Pure resin glands would just melt into the oil so the fine plant material acts like a binder I figure. I heat it up in a pyrex pie plate sitting on top of a dutch oven with simmering water. Just keep mixing it up until it's really thick then when it cools it rolls easily into a ball. Excellent for hot-knifing!

That looks good
I have experimented with BHO , n it makes good smoke, just it wasn’t the ole Gold seal.

I’m putting together the “ refluxer “ from Dr Golds book, and going to follow his recipes
On oil n hash, n see what happens .

I’ve been making concretes for almost 20yrs , never have I refluxed or all the other procedures he goes into, but about to try it out.
I’ve been making RickSimpson oil for ever
(He didn’t invent that)(maybe 1st to eat lots of it) but wasn’t going through all the steps that Dr Gold goes through

After reading the book, I know I can manipulate the color , taste , smell, texture etc . Only a matter of time before I’m smoking hash from days gone by.

50g kif, 6 g of iso oil
Needs a lot more oil as the kif is very low grade, thinking I’ll add another 20g oil

Last time I used higher grade kif,
Going to try power bud too.
Tried that yrs ago but it was a fail,

Damn to have access to that much kief and oil I hope to have some day and be able to do what you are doing. Yes I forgot the 2L bottles with the bottom cut out and even stuffed with ice. Yes those were the days. Let us know how you make out I am very interested. I would love to taste some good ol hash. As I mentioned elsewhere I bought some bbl hash and and a few other flavours from online. Was disappointed. Hell man I could not get a ball to stay on the knife as it just wanted to run away. ;-) and the flavour was not exciting. But I was fortunate to help a friend recently trim some plants and after rubbing all the finger hash off it was a wonderful tasting treat. Full of awesome flavour, smell and a great Lil high ;-)

Found my happy place.

I have Gold's book and Marijuana Chemistry by Michael Starks too. Always wanted to make the THC Acetate. We used to be able to get that in Vancouver back in the day and it was trippy shit. Almost like a cross between acid and mesc but with a definite THC overlay.

Thinking of doing an isomerization on a batch of oil still steeping in methanol. From old pot I screened for kief so it's fairly low grade and may be a good batch to play with.

The original dabbers..we used to use two butter knives and cut the bottom off a two liter of soda... Those were the days... 3 or 4 of us standing around the stove and sucking hash through the end of a two liter..thanks for the blast from the past memories
paper towel roll tube, lol, guess we weren't smart enough to figure out the pop bottle, of course back in the day for me was the 80's so thats like 30 years, may have still had glass pop bottles lol ,

Back in my day we still had glass and used to bust the bottom out of a wine bottle for a hooter. Many more mishaps back in my day before the advent of plastic pop bottles. :)
just as i was reading that I recalled doing the dime trick, stick a dime in the bottle and give it a good up/down heave and the dime breaks out a little pipe hole, lol. mishaps. lol fuck im old.

Have one story, lol buddy in the kitchen trying to make a pipe out of a wine cooler bottle lol, so clink, nadda little harder clink, nadda. Starts to get frustrated, clink clink clink nada, at this point we are all laughing, so he goes for the show stopper heaves the bottle over his head and promptly smashes the the bottle and the big glass globe kitchen light directly above his head. Explosion of light and glass, silence, then a round of applause in the dark. I would piss myself reading a whole book with stories like that.
