Biodiesel Mass.. maybe?

Been wanting to try this one for a bit, but like a dummy I only picked up one seed. Now I have this bizarre scenario..

b1.jpgb2.jpgb3.jpg

The seed casing looks like it's grafted to the stem. This lil lady should be super happy, but is clearly sad. I think she is getting choked out by the shell or something. I tried to very gently pry off the shell and poked around a bit with a toothpick but it's not comin off.

Should I cut it with some scissors? Almost looks like leaf growth down there too, but I'm not sure if that's just crap from in the seed.

I would try lightly spraying it with water, i had a shell do that with one of my seedlings' after about 15mins it fell off coz i think the water must have got in between the stem and shell and that was enough to make it fall off. I've read posts where people have used a toothpick and got it off that way, imo i dont think it will hurt the seedling in anyway if any if u dont manage to get it off the stem the stem will get thicker and just drop off. I would have another crack at it but if ur still unsure just let it come off at its own. If anyone else can suggest something im sure they will jump in here, all the best of luck my friend and hope u sort it. Scunk

You should try to get the seed case wet to make it soft. I would try using a Q tip soaked in water, and see if you can push it off the plant. When it is wet, you could also try using 2 toothpicks to pry it open. Good luck

At least she came up for ya! How long did it take after you germinated the seed? Haha mine decided it wanted to make its taproot a big "O" but I still planted her, no signs of life yet 5 days in. Anyways I'm sure your problem will take care of its self!

dude, she took 4 days to crack open, she really struggled hard to get out of there. and that was after she popped up outta the soil. just sat there looking like those plant monsters from super mario brothers for 3 days. haha

I cracked the shell off her, there were strands wrapped around the stem on the inside but they broke without much effort. Now she is acting normal and leaning to the light and what not. Hopefully her fans pick up soon. Lost a good 5-6 days of veg on that stupid shell. Fortunately she has tons of roots already.

i think the slow growth is from your soil being to wet let it dry up a couple of days and it should get back to moving again

yea, it's possible, she took so long to crack that her 3 gall pot was sitting for 4 days and dried up a bit so I added some more when I dropped her in. Imma just leave her be for a while.

i let the soil dry to almost dust when i plant in a large container and use a spray bottle then after they pop just a 1/2 a cup or so right around the sprout then back to the spray bottle i really dont get run off until the plant has a few nodes

i say almost dust but
if you pinch some it is wet but doesnt clump barely moist
Gotcha, guess it doesn't make much sense to have a crapload of water in the bottom of the pot for a seedling. I mixed some coco soil with my leftover happy frog and the coco threw me off a little too, the water retention is outta this world.

tbh as long as its not stopping the growth tip it shouldnt make much of a difference and will prob fall off normally as it grows but if u want just spray water on it. .that alone might knock it off if not it will get soft and either peel off easily or fall off by itself

I don`t know if it`s a myth, or truth...but I have always been told by the old guys to leave hull on. The dark stripes are supposed to have nitrogen. ( Which makes sense because most fruits and veggies nutrients are in the skin/ shell/ hull ) Once it`s used up, it falls off. If this is true it may explain why the plants don`t wanna let go.

This would be a great Myth Busters episode! ~rollitup edition~

i think the black stripes are where resin was touching it while it was maturing what i was told anyway maybe we do need to get them potheads on mythbusters to give it a go

Yeah that's what's I've always figured. Haha that'd be so cool if they could do like the flushing myth or even a myth seeing if autos NEED a dark period.

the need a dark period has been tested by a gazillion growers already under 24/0 of light stable genetics finish like any other lighting schedule

welp, she lives on, and after a slow start seems to be showing explosive growth now. Very odd looking leaves, maybe its just this strain or I am unfamiliar with this lineage. I almost yanked her up and said screw it but I figured if I was gonna do that it wasn't a total loss to juice her up and see what happens so I gave her a triple dose of grow big and she came to life. She might have done so anyway, but regardless I'm glad I kept her. I wanna see how she looks as she matures.

Yup she's taking off! My Skunk Mass keep growing a new set of leaves everyday now. We're both in for the ride:bigjoint:

Hey bro, is this thread going to turn into your grow journal or are you not going to do one? I want to see how it plays out as my BDM didn't make it and I want to see what I could've had! Great looking girl btw!

as for the weird leafs, it might just be normal for e strain, I'm sure you'll start getting normal sets of 5 and 7 leaves soon!

yea, imma quasi journal it here, from what I've seen of other BDMs it's gonna be an interesting plant visually.

Sweet man I'm subbed. I can't wait to see what she looks like towards the end! What's your current setup? And are you only growing the single BDM or do you have others going?
