i sure miss hunting.
not so much fishing, i catch buzzes and release the fish
now really is the time for me to fill the feeders and sweeten the plots, if i am gunna hunt for the coming seasons.
and i got another gator in the pond that wont leave,
this vegan trip i been on is starting to get old,
not the eating part, but the killing part
its like i have this inter need to kill animals
heading to the camp after my work out......i think today will decide for me

Went out Thursday & Friday for Salmon & to see if we could rustle up a beach deer or two.
We got (est) 160 lbs of Silver (Coho) fillets & a buck the 1st day.
Second day about 180 lbs more of fish & another buck.
I have been a very busy guy these last 3 days.

Nothing to hang on the wall - just nice fat spikes
Saw over 2 dozen on the beach in 2& 3's - some of the beaches are iffy to get onto so those deer got a pass.

I did my job, and I believe I did it very well
I found this guy yesterday at about 2pm.
4:45 my hunter quit .

Spotter pic, (smoke is crazy bad) he’s over 4” below his jaw line , and very smart, hoping he’ll make it to next year when I have a tag.
Good luck pulling that tag bro - take plenty of pics if you make it to the end zone.
I look forward to seeing them.

I’ll take lots ,but probably going to be solo. I keep saying my next ram will make book on an over the counter tag.
This year I am holding a high priority mulie tag . But deer just don’t make my heart beat like a big ram.
This was the smoke going in from forest fires
Did not make it very easy on my part. There’s a mtn in that pic behind the smoke.
All I could do was try n keep up.
This is how I pack for a hunt
Our deer season has been open for a month and a half already.
Last couple of winters have been pretty mild so they are they all over the place - there are lots of older (bigger) ones too which is nice.
The best Bucks are still in the alpine though & there's a lot of alder between down here & up there!

Did they change the rules there so anyone can hunt with a crossbow? Use to be only handicap people could but they changed it here a year or 2 ago.
Crossbow's are a legal means of taking game UNLESS you are holding an archery only tag - for those you have to use a Long/Recurve/Compound Bow only.

Hunted hard for moose all last weeknear Fairbanks. Had mostly gorgeous weather and leaves were turning but no cooperation from the swamp donkeys.
Spotted many very accessible cows in this valley... but no bulls.
Found a perfect tree with a good view 40’ up just a short walk from our camp. Not too sketchy a perch but I did rope myself in because I kept nodding off lol. Spent a bunch of mornings and evenings freezing my ass off up there and watched a couple dozen moose tromp through over 7 days... but all cows! One morning was extra cold and I Literally watched skim ice form on the ponds between 6 and 9am when the sun finally crested the hill... or maybe it was just my eyeballs freezing up lol. Three nights of aurora too, although it doesn’t feel like any consolation.
So now we’re home, skunked. Got lotsa fish in the freezer but almost out of red meat so we’re considering options... bummed that all are f’ing expensive.

My hunting partner's Dad passed & he had to attend to family down in the world so I didn't even get to pretend I was Moose hunting.

With lows of 70deg and highs in upper 80's/low 90's ill be waiting a few days for temps to drop..

Yeah I don’t mean to sound down! It was a great week off the grid and life is good. It’s Just when you work hard it’s nice to have a payoff... of course we could have worked harder.
I gotta lot to learn about moose and swamps.
My moose spot is the opposite - I hunt above treeline in the Ak Range, usually have Dall's as close as 1000 yds every hunt.Yeah I don’t mean to sound down! I drive my wheeler up on a knob overlooking the alder patches & glass /call from there.
Did a bit of Beach Deer hunting this past weekend - skinning on the porch of the remote cabin when we got a (very nicely mannered) Brownie show up to watch.
In 3 days we saw over a dozen different bears - one whose local nickname is "The Excavator" for obvious reasons, he'll make B&C with no problems as he's every bit of
11 ft but too smart to get within a 1/4 mile of unless you're really good/very lucky.
