I don't have any national forest or state parks in the area and most of the rivers/streams in the area are on private property (gated). How do you guys scout locations in the off season? Any tips and tricks? I live in a small town surrounded by rural, wooded areas BTW.

Yah that is how I found my spot. Have to climb rocks to get there but water is near by,plenty of sunlight too. I picked three spots on google earth hiked out there and picked this one.
lol I just got done, kinda determined both locations I had in mind were not going to be suitable. 1 is WAY too close to the road and other houses and the other might have more traffic than I think. I used to play in this area as a kid and I really don't know if kids still do. I guess I could scout it now, set up some various things to know if there have been people there. I am leaning towards the second because it was very heavily wooded and really tough to get to when I was younger. The other concern I have is that not enough sunlight will get through the canopy. The area is private property but its not gated and the owner has not been there in decades (think he is actually dead). There are a few trailers within about a half to 3/4s of a mile from the area and I would easily be able to hear someone coming and bolt the other direction.
I am really not thinking about doing a hardcore grow, more of an experiment. I am not going to be able to baby these guys because of their location but I would be able to visit once or twice a month (probably take off work during the middle of the week so I don't run into any kiddies).

Wanna do a Hardcore grow .. lease some farmland out in the middle of nowhere , plant a ton of corn about a month late , plant your weed a month early and topp em.. Just as your corn is ready to harvest so is your bud ,,

Buddy I am doing ALLLLLLLLLL my homework. By spring I hope to have the perfect little secluded spot terraformed to be the ideal grow location. On top of that I am going to get some clones going in my indoor rig.
lol, that is a little high budget for me. I am looking at LOW budget for the first outdoor grow. I mean I don't even wanna waste nutes on these plants. I am going to abuse the shit out of them.

Two questions Korvette, i'm moving to an area where i'm surrounded by beachs. Would i be able to grow in the sand dunes? and the corn thing. which would i plant first? the corn or the weed? and when should i plant it? what month? Why bother then, spend a couple hundred on nutes and another hundred or so on soil prep and grow them properly.

I need to feel out this strain and see if it is worthy of this climate. Irrigation is going to be an issue as well. Don't worry, my indoor babies get plenty of love.
Expementation. If the strain can hold its own in the heat and lack of water then I will baby it the next season. Also I need to see how well the spot works. If I come back one day to find all my plants ripped up then I know its a bad spot, I would be so mad if I had dropped 2 bills on it and lost it.
Be sure to keep you eye on the sun and make sure they are going to get enough. It sucks to hav to move them. Then come transporting your seedlings is what I hav trouble doing if you hav a go idea send me a msg please. Oh yeah they have these crystals or something like that to put in the dirt that helps give the plant water when it get dry in the summer.Good luck

If any one is around or near Iowa,Iowa has the best spots...when corn is planted in the ground so should your crop....just a wise tale around where i live. i come to find out that that corn crops are a good way to tell when it is time to plant and when to harvest...but thats my opinion.
They also use helos to fly over and spot crops when the corn starts to turn in color.
