Best use of small Space with a lot of vertical space

So after reading Marijuana Cultivation cover to cover I still have a bunch of questions. First one:
I have two closets that are about 30x20 each, but they are six feet tall. I wanted to grow in soil, and I was going to get 3 gal square pots which are 8.5 square. Should I grow four plants in this space or six, and what is the best way to take advantage of the six feet of vertical space?
I am afraid if let the plants grow to be about 2-3 feet in veg, by the time they are done flowering, none of the lower branches will get any light, and I will end up hurting my harvest in the long run.

Sounds like a place where cfls could help because they are easy to place and use on the sides and you can get them right in close to the foliage. Just a thought.

Ok, here's my two cents worth. I'm growing in a similar area, the difference is that I'm 36x20 but my height is only 48"

For me, 2-3 plant in 9"-10" pots is perfect. I've had as many as 8 growing at once but they just sorta overgrew each other and the harvest wasn't any bigger, just less bud per plant.

Since you've got two closets, I'd use one as your flower chamber and then divided the other one into sections for seedlings/clones, mothers and vegging. If you use CFL's as lighting for the "seedlings/clones, mothers, vegging" closet, you wouldn't even need that much ventilation.
