Best time to obtain clones for outdoor setup? =)

Sup ladies and gentlemen. New to the forums here this is my first post. Planning on teaching myself how to grow outdoor over the next couple years and HOPEFULLY with some guidance from friends so I figured id sign up on the forums here and meet some peeps make some buddies and get on the right foot =). Located out in CA and the weather is starting to get real nice =0.

Step 1 is to get clones at the perfect time. When should i do this? I know the time is now or very close =D Id like to get the most out of 10 or 20 gall pots. Preferably twenty 10gals.

Anyone got some words of wisdom for me? Advice is greatly appreciated. I have a lot of general common knowledge from research and watching friends but never actually ventured out to try producing my own meds.

My advice is:
Smart Pots 20gal or bigger. Cheap used ones on craigslist work awesome.
Good Soil. Happy frog for example
Good Genetics. This is pretty easy in CA.
MaxSea Fertilzer. Awesome stuff.

I'm further north than you..With the excpetion of the seeds I just germed, all my clones/seddlings are all over 2 feet tall. So..If you have a place to hold them over if you need to get them sooner than later to help get some more size on them in a friendlier environment.

When you are ready to put them out..ease them a little. Put them out in their pots for a few hours and increase the time each day. I usually transition mine for three or four days...But I wait until Mid-May (for sunlight hours reasons). I also wait for the weekly forcast to look favorably to move outdoors as well.

You just have to remember these have been in a controlled environment for the past month or so and now you putting them out in the elements (which can be a shock for them), so do it slowly.

Bro Montana You should check the Old Farmers Almanac for the last frost date in your area. We still have a 25% chance of frost as late as 15 April here. May 1st is a pretty safe bet for most of NORCAL. Good grow karma to you!

First off you guys are friggin awesome thank you for all the responses! Soooo what i think im gonna go ahead and do is... get my clones ASAP and ill use 20gall smart pots =). I got a good selection from a solid nursey on the clones so will be good as far as genetics go. So as long as they have taken root is it cool to throw them outside immediately into the sun or should i not be giving them sunlight until mid may when its safe to keep them outside permanentlly? Im assuming its either between that or the 6500 color temp t8 flouro tubes that I got for 18/6. Also, is there a risk of these things going into an early flower from going from 18/6 lighting to the 13-14 hour days in mid may? How do most of you make sure this doesn't become an issue? Ty again for all the solid responses!

Harden them off for a few days before putting them outside permanently. take them outside for a few hours and increase the time each day by an hour or so, after 3-4 days they'll be ready. Look up "hardening off tomatoes" for detailed instructions. Basically you don't want to shock them.
