Right now I have 2 air cooled 1000 hps that I! able to flower under and 4 ballasts.so the option is there to grow my medicine room .That said my veg light is one the longest at 18 hours a day so!prime up to 24.so what would be the best LED to strictly only veg with .I have about 1000 bucks to play with right now .months time I could have problaly 1500 to play with .I was thinking Bout electric sky 180? Or ttheur 300?what about HLG 550 .I read you can get them refurbished for 600 or less?I am apprentice electrician so a DIY is possible but I just don't see the savings being enough to not be able to open the package and plug it in.Maybe I'm wrong.Any opinions? All are welcome?tanks

I'm looking into this as well. I have a 1m2 tent and am looking at the Mars 2000. I don't know what your size requirements are, but I'll bet you can find what you need within your budget.

Wouldn't reccomend Mars for a veg light, unless you're searching around for a full cycle fixture?

There's truly not a better light tailored for Vegetative growth than B Spec. Or if you can build one yourself using strips, cobs or boards, 4000K cct diodes seem to do the absolute best. You'll hear 5000k from lots of people. I agree it's got it's strengths, but better off at least mixed 1:1 with 4000k.

Yes the B Spec is one of the current HLG 550 models.

The others are the HLG 550 V2 R Spec and the HLG 550 V2 ECO.

I gotta agree with @Airwalker16 about the Bspec for veg only. If you wanna flower with it too, get the Rspec or the new Diablo boards.

And if you do use promo code "RIU10" for 10% off.

Any China alibaba 4000k 240w QB style unit w/ Samsung diodes. Whether 301’s or 561’s. I fucking love mine.

Guess it depends on what your chosen flower period and space is, and how many plants per cycle, or if you are running some kind of perpetual. Can work backwards from there to get an idea on how big a space and light needed for veg requirements.

bigmikey86 shows a cool example of energy usage and requirements.

Even a diy strip build can suffice, for the budget conscious. Work out how much veg space you want, and go from there.
