Best bulkheads

I use current culture 3" bulkheads, I get them for 10.35 each at my local grow store. uniseals work but are kind of a pain in the ass imo. I did 2" bulkheads on my last 4 rdwc setups and they would get clogged with roots occasionally. My latest setups I am currently building are with the 3" bulkheads from current culture and working great. For me personally I would/will go with bulkheads over uniseals every time.

It sucks to spend the money but it is great when you never have to worry about leaks. Bulkheads are one place where cheaping out can mean disaster. That said, my 1" Lifeguard Aquatic Bulkheads from Amazon have performed extremely well on round buckets. I think they were $5-6 per.
The only way for me to get my ABS ones to work with the very thin gasket included,was to use it on the outside. Are your gaskets more hefty and thick and what side did you use?

I use the screw type male and female parts from electric conduit “Grey” color from Home Depot and then get the rubber from the tub drain .. all from Home Depot

Actually would switch over to these from my uniseals if I could find a grommet to fit 2" Conduit Adapters. I don't trust silicone sealant like @fragileassassin does.
Hey Fragile, maybe you oughtta check out these rubber tub grommets he's talking about for your system.

And @fragileassassin you've seen no issues with your submersible pump emptying the res to your waterfalls faster than your 1-1/2" returns can supply?
1.5" pipe flows over 2000gph at gravity under no pressure. 2" is like 3200gph
I have the boxes connected with 1.5 between them but its 2" on the end.

Even with 2x 1200gph pumps going full speed, by levels all stayed exactly the same.

I just liked knowing that 2" is 4X what 1" can do.

I just came across this thread because I've been fiddle fucking with a leaky uniseal. I'm really digging these conduit adapters you guys are talking about. There's tons of gasket material out there, that can be bought in sheets. I think what's needed is to find a way to cut two circles that are the right size, so you end up with a perfect gasket. I've got the wheels turning, I'll come back and post when I figure it out. If there's a way to do this, it's going to be big savings.

for auto repairs and such, Permatex Form A Gasket #2 was a lifesaver. remains flexible too.

Sound looks a better option than trying to figure out how to cut a bunch of circles.
I'd have no cutting circles. Just simply roll up a sheet of 1/32-1/16" sheet metal in to the sizes you need and weld or tape or whatever to hold it. Sharpen the edge.
Any soft paste based stuff is what we want to avoid.
