G'day All based in vic
first time grower here based in vic I have a couple of health probs and decided to try growing just 1 plant.
First of i would like to mention im on a very limited budget but this is what I have so far
I have built a cupboard with interior measurements of :
1670mm high
1325mm long
910mm deep
I have been given some silver batt 450 insulation I was wondering if I could use this as the reflective surface or should I line the walls with this and then hang panda film over the top?
The unit is not in a house its in an exterior building this is why I would like to use the silver batts
cupboard cost me $25 to make had alot of the stuff just lying round

Here is a list of everything I have to go in the room so far
water heater
thermometer with min max record
ph tester pen
hm digital ppm/tds tester
water pump 1200l/hr
air pump 360l/h
60cm flexible air stone
computer fan (air in)
420mm pot
52 litre reservoir (probly a bit big but was cheap lol)
plumbing
bag of cyco coco peat
cyco a+b veg and flower
400w jb ballast hps
powerplant hps 400w
cooltube with interior dimple shade
computer fan and duct for cooltube
got all this from discount hydroponics on ebay great prices $430 for all the above delivered
powerplant mh superveg 400w retro fit globe (given to me only used for 3 weeks)
mountain air carbon filter 300mm x 1000mm (given to me had 3 months use)
Allvent uf-310 250mm centrifugal fan (friend is thinking of giving me this)

I was palning on doing a recycling flood and drain set up
using superthrive during the veg stage but was told not to use in flower stage

I have some bag seed but not sure how old they are but they have been kept cool and in an air/light proof container was thinking of maybe trying to get some medical strain seeds but im a bit weary bout who to buy from, customs etc...

what do you guys think any opinions/comments would be greatly appreciated

great deal bro
only thing im not keen on is the flood and drain set up, maybe look into dwc/drip very easy to use and great results
if im any help to ya let me know

well for a first grow you seem to have your shit down man so kudos. Im not a hydro grower and far from experienced so can't really shed to much light on it all, however i would just do your bag seed for now and see how they go. Chances are you will fuck up the grow and maybe even kill them.....so why waste money on good seed?

Others may disagree however i would suggest doing more than one plant. If your going through the hassel of it all you may aswell do a few. One plant or three will still get you in the same amount of shit with the piggies so go for broke. Just my two cents on the matter though.

Also seems how its bagseed there may be a strong chance of hermis or males. So i would personally grow MORE than you need so when it comes to flowering stage you can kull the shit ones. Nothing worse than getting to flower only to find you have hermis...had that problem last year on my first grow.

I have never got seed into the country so can't speak from experience but i hear its better to stay away from the Dutch based banks as it is more likely to be checked by customs than say if you ordered from the UK.

Wish you luck mate and look forward to seeing your grow. Don't forget to start a thread so we can all have a sticky beak ;)

Welcome Odlaw, you'll find every1 here to be pretty friendly (Except Rocksteady.. He is our resident drunk & a mean 1 @ that, also I think he is a closet homo).
Setup sounds good. As Jimmy said I'd ditch the flood & drain - Just fill a pot with 75/25 Coco & Perlite. Water as neccesary. Easy 2 Manage for 1 plant, good results, but more importantly it's a great starter - it will allow u 2 learn how the plant develops, but still retains a buffer between you and the death of your plant.

GoodLuck :peace:

hi jimmy
i was thinking a flood and drain set up would be good for me cause 1/ ive seen it in action and now how it works and 2/ i have health probs that can at times put me in hospital for a day or 2 and this system would still keep the kids feed but in sayin that i am about to go check out the forums and see what i can find out about dwc/drip systems as i have no knowledge what so ever on these

Hi Skiz
yeah i have done a bit of research on net and spoke to a couple friends who used to grow and tried to come up with what i needed to atleast get started with out compromising on quality to much

as for the seeds i was planing on doing a few seeds and taking them to flower and then just keeping the best looking female but after a look at victorian laws it appears i could actually have up to 10 plants and only get done for personal use if ive read it right bit baked at moment lol

thanks for the pointer bout dutch companies after a bit of a think a friend of mine married a pom a year or so ago maybe hes got som1 over there who could do a ferry trip to amstradam and get me some seeds so i think ill talk to him lol

probly be a couple weeks yet b4 i actually start my grow want to get my room set up just right test temps over a few days with lights on etc so i no ive at least got that happening right b4 i plant lol but when i do i will start a journal

Just wondering. Majority of you have watering systems. But is there any harm in doing it manually? I mean im up checkin on them nearly every day and i would guess you guys would check on yours too so why not just go manaully?

Hourly hand watering would be a bit labor intensive for my liking.

well i am new to this game but from what ive read and if i got this right most hydro mediums need a few waters over the day hence the watering systems i am going to use coco and i believe hand watering that is pretty easy as the coco holds alot of the water and dont need to be watered as often
just remember though i am a noob this may be wrong as i dont have experience just what ive got from researching
correct me if im wrong guys and im sure u will :P

yer i do coco and hand water. Orignally i was doing just flood the pot till i get run off once a week. Now i do 500ml-1L when the soil gets dry (about every 2 days)

@ n1K: They look great mate. I was actually only looking into purple strains last night as well lets face it purple is different so quite interesting. Let me know how she smokes as the majority of strains i looked at said they were low THC so be interesting to see how much it takes for a good rip.
