Attempting a Heath Robinson Flooded Tube Vertical Grow. 2x600w.

I've wanted to do this for a while and now I am going for it. I'm trying to make Heaths Flooded Tube Vertical . If you don't know what that is check it out. Legendary. Thank you Heath for the inspiration and for the wealth of information you provided.

I have started building the pvc tube system. The frame is done and the pvc should be in tomorrow. Clones will be ready by friday. I'm growing Greenhouse Seeds The Church, which isn't too great, but it's what I could get 95 clones from.

So this is just like Heaths except mine is more of a square. Heaths inside diameter is 4 ft and mine is 4' 6". I assume the Church is going to get taller than 12-14" like Heaths strain did. I didn't use the gasketed pipe because I couldn't find it, even at a giant plumbing supply store. They said the could order it, but that was going to cost like 3 times using regular schedule 40 PVC. So, Regular PVC is being used, which still costs a bit. The PVC with all the 45 degree pipes was around $500US. I used the same plastic dams that will keep the water level at the bottom of the net cups. I am also doing 5 levels with 2 600 watt lights like Heath suggests. All credit to him for the design , concept, generosity with his time, and brilliant execution.

Feel free to ask any questions, comment, etc.

Sorry the pictures suck, I am between cameras at the moment. Should have one soon. Will update with finished room.

Totally watching this. I'm fascinated by this style of growing. I think it would be fantastic for those dang leggy sativas!

I am going to flower when I see really established roots and nice green growth, hopefully no more than 7-10 days. My clones are just rooting now. Just good old fashioned air exchange for the CO2. Airflow will be good. It is not a sealed room, in fact below the bottom row it will be open moving the air around with fans as well as providing me with access to the inside.
Beansly-thanks for the interest. stay tuned, hopefully this goes well.
Chairman Maow- Thanks for the interest. I'm not sure a sativa would be good in this system as the plants need to stay pretty short. I will be doing a horizontal scrog with Super Lemon Haze in 4" flooded PVC right after I finish this build. Took the clones for it this morning.

I have to say, bongsmilie for my first post on this site... YES. i love this idea. i really want to try and utilize all the light i can and vertical seems to be a damn fine way of doing it. even bigger with 2 x 600w . the only question i can ask is how tedious or difficult is the nutrient aspect, I'm a bit nervous to step into hydro without knowing a solid amount about it and killing off X amount of lovely ladies. i know this system actually can conserve water usage but as for nutrients, are there certain ones i should be using in a system like this? this is why I'm leaning towards soil my first go ...

subscribed and good luck ! :blsmoke:

one question : clones are about 3 weeks old, than 7 - 10 days vegging in this system, after that goes 12/12 (flowering), right ?

Finished it up today and put the clones in. I had a some issues with the clones and lost like 55%, so w3e'll see what happens. I'm going to veg them a little longer. and space them out every other hole.
Using Ionic veg nutes at 1.0EC. PH 5.8

Here's a video from about a week ago. The girls are now one week into flowering.

I put a huge super lemon haze plant in a bucket connected to the rez and it is now taking up one entire side.

Hydro is quite easy to do. you need the proper epuipment and the right knowledge-which is available at this here website. I have never grown in soil and I have no plans to do so. It just seems so dirty. Look into passive drain to waste systems to start, they are easy and don't require a bunch of pumps and reservoirs. Any inorganic hydroponic nutrient line is good. I started with General Hydroponics Flora line, which has been around for decades, and I used it for years. I am now using Ionic, which I like because it is a one part nutrient. Some people like Canna and Advanced Nutrients. I have never used those, but I am sure they are great. Just don't be suckered into buying a bunch of additives. It's not hard to grow, just follow the manufacturers directions. Good luck to you.

The clones were about 10 days old when I put them in the system and I vegged them for 8 days. They have now been flowering at 12/12 for one week.

How big of a pump do you need? how many galons?
I am using a 1000 gal/hour pump The whole system holds about 35 gallons. 3 in the bucket, about 20 in the tubes, and 12-15 in the rez.

Thanks for checking it out.

I didn't expect you will answer, but miracles happen. Thank you. This journal looks too passive for me considering a great system used in this growth. You have another video on youtube, i watched it, everything looks great, keep updating.

Oh yes, one more thing. What is the size of holes in pipes ? I mean those holes for net pots to fit. No. Let me ask differently. What are measurements of net pots ? (For example : Measures 3-7/8" across the top and 3" tall. 3" at the base). Maybe it's not very important thing, but for a stressed newbie, it is.

I can't post anything on my first account. I have sent a request that I get access to post on my own account. Until then I will just update this through this new account. Everything is running smoothly. The video is from day 13, it is now day 16.

Also, I would guess that the system holds about 40 gallons of water total.

Sorry I don't have any still pics of the setup. It is a very tight space and there is not much room to get a good picture. I can explain anything in detail if anyone has any questions, and I can take more video.

The net pots are standard 3" pots, the holes in the pvc were cut with a 2 3/4" hole saw. The net pots are 3" across the top, a little narrower at the base and I don't know how high. it doesn't really matter, you just cut the dams to the level of the net cup.

Thanks kevin.

Here is the latest video. This is day 17 of flowering. Everything is running smoothly.

so today is flowering day 24. Everything is going great. I think it is going to get harder and harder to get any video or pics. I'll do the best I can. Any questions are welcome. Thanks for looking. I'm

Also, the second part of the video is of my super lemon haze scrog that I am about to flower. I will start a journal for that soon. Note the lack of a screen. It will be put in tomorrow. Now, time to go to a Halloween party!
