Thanks for the info - I bought the seeds (feminized) from Nirvana, White Rhino info says it's 90 Indica 10 Sativa.

i have had great success with Nirvana ive grown ice, a fellow grower i know grew 3 strains i traded him for AK-48, Snow White, Chrystal, and he grew ice too... every thing came out just as they said it would lvery stable IMO... if you can get your temps under control move your light closer to the plant, your going to have to get those temps way under control for when you move the 400 in...your about to not only become a grower but also an all around handy man :) good luck...

Hey man it doesn't look too bad! What are the temps? And how far away is that cfl? You will get plenty of good tips here so welcome to RIU!! Awesome that you got that HPS for flower. I flipped my ladies at about 2ft. Really depends on the strain and how much it will stretch in flower. Keep us updated man and happy growing :weed:
Well, dummy me had it 3-4 feet under a halogen and the I was doing good to keep the temps under 80-85 so I did some more reading and changed to the cfl about 3 inches from the top and the temp has been a pretty steady 72-74 during the day and 68-70 first thing in the morning. I have the cfl in a 10 inch reflector to direct the light right over the pot....is that good or should the bulb be open? I cracked 4 more and put in humidity dome - 3 are sprouting and I don't have much light on them right now. Bought more cfl bulbs but not sure to put them under them at this stage?

Question...would using MH bulbs vs cfl in veg make a huge difference?

LOL, well, here's the deal....before buying fem seeds from Nirvana, the hub happened on a random seed and decided to see what it would do. Germed it and put it in organic soil under halogen thinking it wouldn't turn out to be anything. This was long before I did any reading and research, next thing we knew, it was a good 2 foot tall and looking good. We waited until we were sure it was female, which by SOME stroke of luck, we think it is - I will attach pictures and if anyone thinks it's not female please let me know!! So, this has been a test for us. This one is of unknown genetics although came from a good batch, is on day 7 in flowering, under 400 HPS, humidifier in closet / room. It was planted in organic soil and we have not fed it any nutrients as I've been afraid to given all the threads and things I've read about nute burn.....I figured if it looked good, it's okay? It seems to me that it's very stretched and doesn't have much on it but then again, I know very little and have no idea what strain it even is. Temps under the HPS have been running in the mid 70's, have had to make several adjustments to prevent too much heat - added fan, etc... I don't really have expectations with this plant as it's pretty much an experiment, however, any feedback is greatly appreciated!!

What kind of organic soil.. You can give them nutes after 4 weeks. Just be careful when you do feed lighter doses like 1/2 strength because there is still some nutes in the soil.

This one is in Miracle Grow organic with nothing extra added by us. The others are in a mixture of MG organic, organic top soil, perlite, and sphagnum moss. I also have Jamaican bat guano I was planning on using at some point (flowering?)....any recommendations about that? I've read up on how to make teas and so forth. Hub says my cooking abilities are about to take on a whole new spectrum!

I've read mixed reviews on the use of MG and my plan is eventually develop our own soil - more control over what gets put in it. I'm not a fan of the sticks and bark like stuff in the MG. Are you recommending nutes 4 weeks into flowering?

I dont have any experience using Miracle Grow, are you using that timed release MG soil? Good luck.. I'm pretty sure Sea of Green on Bell Rd and 23rd ave sells compost tea that they brew themselves at the store you can call them and get a quote.

Thanks for the soil recommendation, I will give it a try next time. I now realize time release isn't ideal so won't be using MG anymore, given that this is my first grow, I'll be happy if the plants simply survive to and through flowering!

Yeah there are too many grow stores here in Phoenix that you shouldnt be using MG soil for Cannabis, go for something like Fox Farms Ocean Forest or Happy Frog or Roots Organic soil on your next run or do what Jayco does, he grows on a budget too and found some good organic soil for 4 bucks a bag.. Good luck we are here to help.

I really appreciate the tips, everyone has been so nice and helpful!! Green Life is in my area and I'm going to see what they have as well as Lowe's (been going to Home Depot) for a lot of stuff.

I'll be steering away from time release, thanks for the tips! I do have some MG nutes right now diluted to 1/4 but haven't fed with them yet. Soil nute checks have been okay and plants look okay so I haven't been feeding.....one is at day 7 in flowering so I'm thinking I may need to feed in another 2-3 weeks? I'm probably being overly cautious about doing anything to them in fear of killing them off.

Haha you sound like me with my first grow, which isn't finished btw haha. Jay could probably help you out a lot as he is using cfl's in a cab and doing great. Im glad you got the lights closer though. Easy test is to put your hand by the plant and feel the heat, if it burns you a bit then its too hot for the ladies :) Everyones setup is different and heat will move different, I have a sealed hood with a 600w and can get the girls within 3-4 inches. Keep us updated and maybe start a grow thread, we will all help you out along the way

Started a thread as you recommended! For my technologically challenged mind, how do you link the url at the bottom of your posts?

Suprisingly the roots organic nutrients work perfect with their soil. Feel free to feed every watering, it's basically what I did when I used them. Saw great results just lacking yield...plus it was a pain having to mix 4+ nutes ever time I fed. Overall I give roots organic nutrients a 7.5-8/10
