Are these lights good enough?

Hey guys, Hope you are all well.

I just got myself some nice lil Easy Ryder seeds, and am planning on growing them one or two at a time. The thing is, I am more than a little bit poor at the moment, so after buying the seeds and a potting setup, i havent much left over for lighting.

So i had a look on ebay and found these two lights for sale;

Now, i Really dont know all that much about lights, but bear in mind that i am only planning on having 1 small plant on the go at any one time, Maybe two if it goes well, so in your expert opinions, would either of these (or both) be sufficient to get a good yeild on an autoflowring plant?

any help would be great, Thanks!!

:dunce:

Those lights will work the first link for veggin and the second is for cloning

the second won't do much for anything else

if you want to see how to get a good yield with not much light read my Goin Loco grow journal, I just harvested a few days ago but only had 97 watts of light

The light will be good for veg like riddleme said. If you are growing 1 plant, go for at least 100w, any extra plants add at least another 50w (that is cfl rating) You may be cheaper if you are in the UK going to B&Q or something like that and getting some 2700 cfl (this is for the flowering - i.e wamr light - which are the most common bulbs ) I would imagine they are only a few quid each. Get a few of them as well and you'll be right.

I wouldn't waste my time with the 2nd light.

Good luck.

Forgive my ignorance, But is there any reason why the CFL in my desklamp wouldn't be of any use as a grow light?

I see so much about all these amazingly expensive grow lights, but really very little real info.

You can use the cfl in your desk lamp. I buy regular old cfl's and I grow with them. You don't need a special type of cfl to grow with. But don't waste your time on the second light. And if you get two of the first two then that should be good.

You can use your desk top lamp, it probably has a standard E27 fitting. I would STILL recommend you buying some cfl's in the 2700 range. If you get two of the 6400, that is both cool lighting range (or veg/real daylight) The normal cfl's you buy in the supermarket DIY store will tell you what they run at.

As far as HID lighting is concerned. If you compare this with normal lighting or CFL, the amount of lumens you get for the same wattage is incredible. There is loads of info on lighting, lumens, light ranges, PAR rating, etc, on RIU. Just need to hunt around for it.

If you need any more help just shout.

Peace, DST

Now I'm confused,

If i can just go to Asda and buy a generic "energy saving lightbulb" for a couple of quid,
Why do people spend hundred on these massive growlights when the store stuff is so adequate?

For the record, I got my first lowryder seed in damp tissue in an airing cupboard, but 24hours in and still no splitting, so it may be a moot point alltogether. :(

everythign he is saying is right. Reg cfl ussualy are in the 2700k spectrum, which is the spectrum best suited for flowering a marijuana plant. The top link you were looking at is a 6500k spectrum buld, which is perfect for veg, but not as great for flower, best way to do the grow is get the 6500k bulb, use it for all veg, then add some reg cfl bulbs that are in the 2700k spectrum. now i am high but i hope i have explained in some kind of helpful way

Thanks for the help guys!

Ill look into lights soon then, I should have a seedling emerging in the next few days, so ill get him some sunshine. I think ill go with daylight until she gets too big to be on display, and then get that light from e-bay.

Thanks again!

This might be where you are confused....That light at your house is likely a 13 or 23 watt,(you can't go by 'equivalent watts', as they advertise them) in which you'd need either 5 or 3 of them, plus reflectors for each if you want them to work properly. So, it's easier to spend $10-15 on a 65 watt bulb, $10-15 on a reflector, and have it over with. :)

Ok, So ill get the real growlight from e-bay then. The same people also do a bigger version which i could prbably get, and ill build a reflector too.

Thanks!
