these cambos have been colonizing for over a month now . these two that are discolored were the first two to fully colonize . the other four are still doing thier thing. so my question is are they contamed or just starting to fruit within. they dont smell like puke or anything . infact they smell like the last cake i fruited. it is brf by the way. should i case these two now . i have already quarantined them to another cabinet. thanks :leaf:canon camera 001.jpgcanon camera 002.jpgcanon camera 003.jpgcanon camera 004.jpg

Yeah, I know that all you should be seeing is pristine whiteness...so any spots are no good.

Looks more blue than green to me, so it could just be some bruising.

But I can't really tell. If they get worse then toss them.

Canndo will probably set you straight before then.

Do not open them in your house or you'll spread the evil green mold spores everywhere. Dispose of them outside. Sorry about your contamination and better luck next time.

that looks kind of green......... if it were just blue that wouldn't be much concern....... but green??? hard to tell from pics...... I'd throw them out.

smelll doesn't mean everything.

So are we all unanimous then? Contaminated? I was gonna keep them in solitary for a little longer to monitor the situation . What I don't understand is that cakes were pretty much fully colonized when this happened?what the worse that can happen if you fruited a cake with a little mold on it? Certain death?

I'm with canndo, it doesn't look much like trich unless its growing from inside the substrate.
I would keep it in solitary confinement for a day or two, you'll know if its a contam by then.

Contamination will often stain the surrounding mycelium. That section looks blue, it could be a bruise, it could be a dry spot, it could be internal contamination. I don't think you have a problem.

Unknown until you see it grow. In the early days I could confuse clumps of vermiculite warped by jar glass as contams.
But if you see a jump in growth, trash it.
It is not good enough to isolate.
You do not want the spores of anything that finds your shrooms attractive circulating, and these have (if they are contams) shown they like your fungus.

okay thanks everybody. the situation has not gotten any worse so i will be preparing to case these in the next couple days. so my next question is will it benefit in any useful way to dunk these before i case em? or should i just crumble and case?

I would say to just skip the dunk and go straight to the crumble. Little itty bitty bits. And then you can do whatever you like.
